Been doing Barber Evolution workshops around NZ for a long time now and I still love it.

There’s so much education out there these days, which is awesome, but for me it’s always been about keeping things useful and sharing what I’ve learnt from years behind the chair.

Fades, shape, scissors, beards, tools… all the stuff we deal with every day. Doesn’t matter if you’re new to the game or you’ve been cutting for years, we can all learn something from each other.

The longer I’ve been barbering, the more I’ve realised it’s usually the simple stuff that makes the biggest difference.
A better fade. Understanding shape. Getting more comfortable with scissors. Knowing your tools properly. Being better with beards and shave.

Stuff we deal with every single day behind the chair.

That’s really what I want @barberevolutionnz to be about. Not trying to overcomplicate barbering or act like there’s some big secret to it all.

Just sharing what I’ve learnt over the years, helping other barbers understand things a little better and hopefully making life behind the chair easier.

I’ve put a lot into this over the years and I’m excited to start picking things back up again.

The longer I’ve been in this industry, the more I’ve realised just how important the basic stuff actually is.

Sectioning properly, understanding head shape, controlling your comb, body position, knowing where the weight is sitting and having a proper consultation before you even start cutting.

A lot of us barbers and stylists are always looking for the next technique, the next tool, and for some, the quickest way to get something done. But sometimes the biggest improvement in your work comes from going back and properly understanding the stuff you thought you already knew.

I’ve seen it in my own work over the years, and I see it all the time when I’m teaching. Get the foundations right and everything else starts making a lot more sense.

Something I’m going to start talking about a bit more again. 🤙🏽

But the memories never will be.
