Another incredible year at the 2026 American JavFest Championships! This one was about being resilient, bouncing back from U20s and NBNO. My 4th JavFest win and 7th podium finish. I had virtually no practice for a month with school finals, projects, summer work, and travel so I’m quite pleased with the result. Thank you to all of the coaches, volunteers, NSAF administrators, parents, and athletes who attended and support Javelin throwing in the U.S. I enjoyed seeing old friends and meeting new ones. Exciting to see all the new throwers and watch the Elites launch Javs to the moon.

We had two wins from Arlington Girls!! Kaiya Ovando @kaiyaovando being the other. With Virginia being a non-Javelin throwing state in HS, I’m proud of us making a strong showing. @arlnowdotcom

Happy to come away with a win considering a very strong HS Girls Championship field was contested. I had two throws that would have won it a 47.02m and 46.86m. My first throw was likely 160’ if I hadn’t been about 8’ from the line. I’m still working out some bumps in my approach. Not my best series overall but wanted to really go for big throws at the end.

I finish the year with the top three throws in the Junior Class and five in the top 10. 49.52m, 49.09m, and 47.62m.

I’m uncertain if I will have one more meet. I may compete in the International Youth Championships again for the last time.

Cold night in Arlington, VA before snowfall a few weeks ago before heading to Baton Rouge for the annual LSU T&F Camp that Rob Woosley puts on. We were grateful to have a chance to work with Rob in December at his home in Louisiana. This was Olivia’s first day with the Finn Flier this year. Working on fundamentals and getting clean throws with a lower focal point and left arm. Trying to maintain double support through the throw and not pull down early with the left. This creates a change in direction of the javelin and compromises the power path. Letting her feel a rhythm and flow and try to connect to the javelin more. The Finns give a good amount of feedback in flight. She has been working hard in school and on the track. She has made big improvements and hope to have a great year.

Olivia Barr (16yo/10th grade)winning the USATF Youth National Championships in New York City last weekend with a 44.37m / 145-7. A week after New Balance Nationals in Philadelphia where she made All-American for the third time. Much more consistent on the runway. After an epic practice the week before things are coming together. She had a few very impressive warmups- 3-5 steps over 43m and a short approach over 47m. This is her 6th best finals throw and 10th best throw all-time. She now has 17 finals throws over 42.70m / 140’ in competition and 28 total throws over that distance. She has one more meet likely to complete her HS Sophomore season at the American JavFest.

Great training throw just after rowing season this past summer. 7th time in training 52m+! This one was special. Clean and connected. Hit the point perfectly. Slight block lean left. Need to be more linear on the run. Working on fixing these points. Planning on getting this in comp next year. Using my 75% approach from the Maryland meet a month before. Most of our fast runway work was throughout the winter and early spring. Feeling good about things to come! Shortly after this broke the facility record.

Nice warmup throw coming directly from the SATs over an hour from the runway. I had the most insane WU series of 48-52+m throws. We will post those throws too.

In May it was only rowing on the schedule. Early mornings and lots of studying. After my Wakefield Girls Team won a 6th consecutive Virginia State Championship and competed at Nationals, we went directly into June Javelin competitions with very little practice and not much runway time. These were our last weeks of school with finals and SATs!

This is follow up throw after the fall from the previous reel (shown here again). I was okay and rebounded with a pretty solid throw and the record. I was feeling ick. Sick after the meet for a week. Not my best toss of the year but happy to survive. Soggy soft ground and long spikes.

There are two awesome young TurboJav kids in the video whom I coached a bit. I believe the 7yo broke my TurboJav record. Future Stars! Happy to help pass it down anytime.

Glad to survive this fall and have the wherewithal to toss the Jav out of the way. 🙃 No Javelin practice for me since the American JavFest in mid-July. A month and half off. I went in cold. Decided to do the 50th PV Games more for posterity. It’s been a long history with my first competition at 3yo in the 100m against my Dad. 😂 This might be my 20th club record. I worked with the Turbo Jav kids and I believe the 7yo girl in the reel may have broken my record. 🥰🤗

I was feeling absolutely terrible all day. Discus didn’t go well. First comp in a year. Shot was good at 11.17m / 36-7. It had poured the night before so the ground was incredibly soft. I’ve been used to speed and runways so I was trepidatious especially after the fall. This throw is better than my U20s in Oregon though. ☺️ Likely, 5-7m more in better conditions.

Conistency is the key. Stats collected over my 6 year career with the 600g Javelin. We got the idea from Kara Winger @karathrowsjav who used to track every throw and post averages. Starting my 6th grade as a 12yo with a 42.25m / 138-7.5. You know exactly what you can expect. Improved my top 10 average by nearly 2.5m in 2026 with the top 3 tosses in the junior class. Hoping for that next year with that average to be 160+. PB: 49.52m / 162-5.5.

Great training at Circle, Oval, Runway (COR) Camp with Barry Krammes and Sean Fury in Providence, RI a few weeks ago. Post American JavFest. Two-day session. Hit some really long throws in the grass. Runway was solid. Trying to do too much and need to relax more. Pulling in with my non-throwing arm uncharacteristically too early. Usually, like to keep the arm fully extended. Mentally, just trying to time it better to align throws and not pull across the body and down. I didn’t work my full approach which will be a game changer next. Measured one throw just under 50m but this one was nearly a Jav length farther.

Nice to meet so many coaches! Still uncommitted. Talking to coaches.

We are not chasing the numbers but small technical improvements each year though it is nice to get a PR. Consistency is key but every time out will not be the absolute best. It’s Understandably there will be ups and downs. Learning how to be resilient and bounce back is crucial. With 25 practice and warmup throws over 160’, we had a break through with two throws over 160’ this year and a number of practice throws now over 170’. The time has come. Dues paid. We feel that big results are coming. We’ve kept meticulous records of each throw and competition over the last 6 years.

Happy to compete at the Inaugural Virginia State Javelin & Hammer Championships earlier this summer. Late post! It’s been a busy summer with U20s, NBNO, and JavFest. 3rd best All-time recorded throw. Holding the top 3 Junior throws in 2026! Coming off the previous week’s 49.52m and 49.09m.

I may not look completely ecstatic here because I just hit some between 165’-170’ in warmups. Conservative approach but fluid and well-connected. Penultimate too vertical causing the hips to shift and lose the Jav tip slightly. We’ll post the 165’+ and you’ll see the difference.

Thanks to all those from Commonwealth Throws who put the event on the map for Virginia. This was a USATF-sanctioned event not hosted by VHSL or VISAA. Grateful for the chance to meet young throwers making their mark in Virginia. Looking forward to breaking this record next year. Next year the schedule may be tough with U20 and Nike.
