What an incredible day of teaching at Agritopia Farm in Gilbert, Arizona! The newly constructed educational pavilion was a beautiful place to gather, get our hands in dough, and learn the Barrio way.

It takes a village to create a movement. Across Arizona, our local grain economy grows stronger as farmers, millers, bakers, and community members share their knowledge and connect people to the journey from field to loaf.

And the learning doesn’t stop when class ends. These students become the teachers, sharing their skills with family, friends, and neighbors. That’s how knowledge spreads—and how a movement grows.

I’m proud and grateful that more than 10,000 people have attended my classes in Arizona alone, with this work reaching beyond state and national borders. Every class is an opportunity to pass along skills, spark curiosity, and keep our regional baking traditions growing.

Thank you to everyone who joined—you are part of this movement! And a special thank-you to @ChristyDavis for organizing such a wonderful event.

Looking forward to teaching tomorrow’s sourdough class at Agritopia!

We’ll get our hands into the dough, explore the regional grains I use at Barrio Bread, and learn the process behind naturally leavened bread.

One of my favorite parts of teaching is seeing participants gain the confidence to bake at home and share what they create with others.

Excited to meet everyone and spend the morning learning and baking together in this beautiful farm setting!

I’ve been imagining a children’s book rooted in the Sonoran Desert—its landscape, its grains, and the people who turn those grains into bread.

The story would follow Barrio Bread from a garage bakery to the community it serves today. It would introduce young readers to the seed savers, farmers, millers, and bakers who work together across our region. I’d love for children to see a wheat field in the desert, flour on a baker’s hands, and a loaf shared at a Tucson table—and begin to understand how each is connected.

As a former elementary school educator, I know how powerful a story can be. This one would celebrate regional baking, the traditions and relationships behind it, and the community that has supported Barrio Bread and helped it grow.

I’m looking for a co-author and an illustrator who feel a connection to this place and would like to bring the story to life with me. If that sounds like you, please send me a message with a little about yourself and examples of your work. I’d love to talk. Let’s do this together!
