¡Officially open! 💥 En el marco de la 61ª Exposición Internacional de Arte – La Biennale di Venezia, el Pabellón Argentino presenta “Monitor Yin Yang”, una instalación site-specific de Matías Duville (Bs As, 1974) que transforma el espacio en un territorio transitable construido con sal y carbón vegetal. Es de las poquísimas que tengo de mis 14 años, cuando vino de visita mi tía, que vivía en Australia. Se había ido hacía apenas dos años y volvía, para ver a sus padres, que estaban muy enfermos. En esa visita que hizo a Argentina sacó algunas fotos y luego me las mandó por carta desde Australia. Ella me decía Teto. En la parte de atrás de la foto, escribió: “Querido Teto: sin comentarios” I found this photo the other day. It’s one of the very few I have of me when I was fourteen, when my aunt came to visit from Australia. She’d moved there a couple of years before and had come back to see her parents, who were seriously ill. On her trip to Argentina, she took a few photos and then sent them to me from Australia once she’d got back. She called me Teto. Vie 02.10, 12—4pm El fierro está tan inmerso en la psiquis argentina que no hace falta ni explicarlo. A la manera de sus antecesoras, Luciana responde a la violencia sistémica de nuestro presente con la potencia de las herramientas y los materiales, siempre forzados a subvertir sus usos y funciones habituales para interrumpir los sistemas que los constituyen. Ahora, en una escala avasallante, las obras de Luciana siguen exhibiendo la fragilidad y la violencia que sostienen —y a la vez amenazan— nuestra vida. Lo que ofrece no es una promesa de reparación o de resolución, sino una apertura radical. Un gesto que se niega a perpetuar una ilusión de progreso sin fisuras, para proponer, en cambio, una estética del riesgo. — Iron is so deeply embedded in the Argentine psyche that it barely needs explaining. Like her predecessors, Luciana is responding to the systemic violence of our present by harnessing the power of tools and materials which are forced to subvert their usual uses and functions to interrupt the systems they belong to. Now, in overwhelming scale, Luciana’s works continue to expose – and sometimes threaten – the fragility and violence of our lives. What they offer is not the promise of redress or resolution but a radical new path forward. A gesture that refuses to perpetuate the illusion of seamless progress and instead presents an aesthetic of risk. Esta forma latente del accidente, a diferencia de la catástrofe como acto consumado, es constitutiva del mundo bio-sociotécnico en el que vivimos y está presente en cada uno de los materiales y las herramientas que Luciana elige para trabajar. El naufragio, decía Paul Virilio, nace con el barco; en la obra de Luciana, el desgarro, podríamos decir, nace con el caño. — This form of latent accident, in contrast to catastrophe as a fait-accompli, is a foundational part of the bio-social-technical world in which we live, one that is present in every material and tool with which Luciana chooses to work. Shipwrecks, said Paul Virilio, are born with the ship; in the work of Luciana, we might say, the rupture is born with the pipe. 👄 BUENOS AIRES [Muestras / Exhibitions] LUCIANA LAMOTHE Prefiero Fierro Curaduría / Curated by SOFÍA DOURRON Hasta / Until 03.10 En Prefiero Fierro, se mantienen intactas partes reconocibles de caños industriales de diferentes tamaños, espesores y densidades: el caño sigue siendo caño, pero Luciana lo destruye y reconstruye hasta hacer aparecer ese potencial de estallido y catástrofe que anida en su interior. — In Prefiero Fierro (I Prefer Iron), parts of industrial pipes of different sizes, thicknesses and densities are left intact: they’re still pipes but Luciana has destroyed and reconstructed them until she has revealed the potential for explosion and catastrophe hidden within them. Mostrarlos, entonces, sería un acto subversivo, una pedagogía del riesgo. — Paul Virilio said that hiding or downplaying accidents is a form of ideological control that perpetuates an amnesiac faith in progress by ignoring its violence. Exposing this aspect, then, is a subversive act, a pedagogy of risk. 👄 BUENOS AIRES [Muestras / Exhibitions] LUCIANA LAMOTHE Prefiero Fierro Curaduría / Curated by SOFÍA DOURRON Hasta / Until 03.10 El uso de materiales industriales en su trabajo carga con esta latencia catastrófica: el andamio siempre se puede caer, el caño siempre puede estallar. Cada obra exhibe ese accidente en potencia. Y, en esta muestra, como ya lo hizo en 2011, esa potencia toma la totalidad de la galería, para destruir sus muros. Solo que esta vez no busca dejar el rastro de un acto de violencia individual, sino que revierte esa violencia para hacer lugar a una serie de esculturas de hierro que despliegan el desgarro convertido en estructura. — The use of industrial materials in her work contains within it that latent catastrophe: scaffolding forever about to collapse, pipes might always buckle. Each work has an air of potential accident. And, in this exhibition, as in her 2011 show, that potential encompasses the entire gallery, threatening its very walls. However, this time she isn’t seeking to depict the aftermath of an act of individual violence but to channel that violence into a series of iron pieces in which rupture is transformed into sculpture.
