@monitoryinyang is @matiasduville’s first monumental-scale drawing made of salt and charcoal. It is conceived as an interdisciplinary work that brings together video, installation, sound and expansive drawing. The piece explores a paradox of our time: an apocalyptic scenario in which the future we have long feared has already arrived and yet the human ability to perceive life and beauty in the midst of tragedy remains. In this fractured present, the work of Matías Duville is presented as a surveilled territory, in which drawing is a temporary chart we can use to navigate through it, more as a complete environment than an autonomous object.

Visit the Argentina Pavilion at the Arsenale until November 22!

Some of the most interesting pavilions at this year’s Biennale are built from code, data, and algorithms.

Artlas mapped four of them into one route: landscapes that behave like software, archives that listen, mysticism rendered in data.
