The Argentinian Pavilion 🇦🇷🙌🏻
Upon arriving at the Argentine pavilion, visitors are told to stay on the white paths. Inside, that instruction immediately makes sense: The entryway opens into a dark, almost cinematic environment where a field of snow-white salt undulates across the floor, marked with drawings in black charcoal.

“When I think about salt, I think about the slowness of geological time, the ocean, permanence. I’ve created a huge salt bed for the show, and I’ve spread charcoal dust over it. Charcoal possesses an oppositional valence: It’s energy, combustion—it symbolizes a different way of understanding time.” —— Matías Duville vía @artforum

Matías Duville: Monitor Yin Yang
vía @e_flux

The Argentine Pavilion at the 61st International Venice Biennale presents Monitor Yin Yang, a site-specific installation by artist Matías Duville (Buenos Aires, 1974) curated by Josefina Barcia. The project transforms the pavilion into a traversable landscape constructed from salt and charcoal, expanding drawing—one of the central languages in Duville’s practice—into a spatial, sonic, and performative environment.

Conceived as an immersive installation, Monitor Yin Yang proposes an open cartography that does not represent a specific place but unfolds as a territory activated by movement. Visitors traverse a fragile landscape where materials, sound, and time interact, producing a shifting field of perception.

#BiennaleArte2026 Repost @labiennale
Partecipazioni Nazionali | Argentina 🇦🇷
Pensata come opera interdisciplinare, l’installazione integra video, suono, intervento installativo e disegno su larga scala.

National Participations | Argentina @monitoryinyang is @matiasduville’s first monumental-scale drawing made of salt and charcoal. It is conceived as an interdisciplinary work that brings together video, installation, sound and expansive drawing. The piece explores a paradox of our time: an apocalyptic scenario in which the future we have long feared has already arrived and yet the human ability to perceive life and beauty in the midst of tragedy remains. In this fractured present, the work of Matías Duville is presented as a surveilled territory, in which drawing is a temporary chart we can use to navigate through it, more as a complete environment than an autonomous object.
