The final cue of the soon-to-be released horror feature “The Demon Detective.”

I challenged myself to write this cue in less than an hour. I had already scored most of the rest of the film, and had all the themes and motifs established. And I knew the mood I wanted for the final shot of the film, so I went for it. And yes, it did take me only an hour.

You’ll notice it sounds somewhat conclusive, yet somber, until 40 seconds in, because I couldn’t end the music - and therefore the film - feeling finalized. There needed to be a “there’s more work to be done” sound, since the movie is just one chapter of the Demon Detective.

Sting trio:
@xcellistax on cello
@thee.k.wolf on viola
@edgarjsandoval on violin
conducted by @ronenlanda
engineered by @iarmusic3

When Roe v Wade was overturned, a group of filmmakers quickly got together to produce 11 short films about abortion - and the horrors of that right being taken away.

Not only did I have the honor of scoring one of the films, a song of mine is used in this trailer, on top of a song I wrote called “Down To F—k”, the title track to the short film directed by @abonniesituation (who also wrote the lyrics). The song here is called “Cross the Line” and you can hear both at the link in my bio.

@givemeanafilm is playing online now at @fantastic.fest and soon at the @brooklynhorrorfest on October 16th.

Found a pinecone stripped of its outer shell (maybe??). Anyways, it made a SUPER cool noise when you lightly fiddled with it. #composer #pinecone by @barryjneely

Went live on Twitch, attracted 2 whole viewers! (maybe), because you have to be doing something actually interesting…and it took me a while to get something going on this piece.

I used to composer live a lot more, mainly to keep myself focused, thinking someone *might* be watching. Maybe I’ll start again. #composer by @barryjneely

Back to film composing after a lonnnng while.

Turns out that raising a kid, buying house, moving your whole life, and trying to earn a living at the same time takes up a LOT of time. Who knew?

By the end of the year, I might have three major projects to finish, so this could be fun . by @barryjneely
