horizons | permanent sculpture | aluminum relief | SeaTac Airport | 2026I’m so excited to share this piece that I’ve been working on for the last three years for the Port of Seattle.When I received the call that I was selected for this project, I was in Texas at my mother’s house for my brother’s memorial. I knew then that I wanted to create something to honor him and the transformative healing powers of nature. This sculpture depicts three figures reclining in grassy fields. The central figure is supported by his father behind him while looking out toward his mother. These figures serve as interpretations of my brother, father, and mother.Every time I feel lost or need space to process, I go to nature. I’ve been doing it since I was a kid. With this work, I wanted to explore the journey that lies before us and how our internal compass always guides us.This piece is made out of the same materials as airplanes, and I hope it brings a moment of pause and reflection to travelers.Visit this work at Alaska Airlines’ new North Main Terminal.Designed in collaboration with and fabricated by Form XYZ.Thank you so much @tommy.g.human and @belloubellou84 for your continued support throughout this project. by @barryjohnson.co

suspension, 2024, multi-media fabrication, Hilite Development, Seattle WA.Hilite is open and welcoming new residents to the space. I’m so happy with how all of the art turned out. I really pushed myself to create dynamic works that continue to engage the residents and also interacts with the environment. .infinity flow, steel panels:This suspended sculpture is made up of thousands of tiny perforations that represent waves created by wind-flow. Each four-part section of panels creates a wave, and as the sun moves across the sky throughout the day, the light will cast projections that move across the walls and courtyard, creating a suspended ocean. Depending on where the piece is viewed from, the weather, and the time of day, residents and visitors will have a different experience..monuments, printed aluminum panels:Paying tribute to the name of the development, the bold, continuous movements and colors honor the printing press, the power of the human hand, and the electric colors of highlighters. Traditionally used to draw attention to an item, the highlighter expressionist pieces were developed to remind viewers of the importance of taking time away from their busy lives to pause and appreciate the elements..prisms, glass walkway:As visitors and residents walk through the development, they’ll be treated to an illuminated pathway that leads them to the staircase where all artworks can be viewed at the same time. The pathway design flows from blue to yellow and magenta and will refract different shades of colors as the sun moves throughout the sky, pushing the colors into one another. This piece celebrates the beauty and mystery of light..I’m so incredibly grateful for the opportunity to develop works of art in such an incredible state. I’m always trying to find ways to make public art interact with its surroundings. Because we have such an immense musical imprint here, I wanted to make the area feel as if it were being serenaded, so I directed the trumpet toward the street and broke the frame. by @barryjohnson.co

compositions pt.1 | latex on corrugated concrete | 740X540 | 2026.I recently got the opportunity to create a work to add some color to this massive parking garage. This piece was by far one of the most challenging works to create, and I couldn’t have done it without the help of my brother @craigcundiff. We hand-rolled this entire wall using multiple 6-inch by 1/2-inch roller brushes. We only had three days due to the World Cup matches, and our lift broke down on the first day, causing us to paint for 18 hours straight on the last day. This subtle work is a reminder of our continued contributions to the world at large. We push, pull, and power through all adversities we face, regardless of the obstacle.
