Flag Raising at the former military base where we live. The flag was my dad's. He was a US Army Sargent in WW2 and spent the rest of his life trying to stop wars. 250 years - Happy Fourth of July! @friendsofdiscoverypark @uiatf @vfwpost3063 taken in Fort Lawton by @bartcheever

World Cup was a total spectacle! The whole city of Seattle has gone soccer-crazy with watch parties going on everywhere, from massive outdoor screens with thousands of people on barges, piers and parks - to neighborhood cafes and coffee shops. The stadium is next to the old brick part of Seattle and that whole area has been transformed into a massive fan zone that we walked through for blocks and blocks. I'm not a huge soccer fan but we relented at the last minute to buy tickets and I'm glad we did. Will always remember it. taken in Pioneer Square, Seattle, Washington by @bartcheever

Rode bikes to Alki beach and along the way got to check out one of Seattle's massive World Cup Watch Parties USA vs. Australia. Super weird to see people in Seattle waving American flags and chanting "USA!" but it was a good day. by @bartcheever

My wife Claudine left Amazon after ten years - yesterday was her last day - and is starting a big new job next week. So for just one day ... she played hooky and we pretended we were retired. Fully retired. Empty nest with just the two of us, no responsibilities etc etc.

We slept in, had a little breakfast together and talked and talked. We went to our local gym, the one with the senior citizens, and ran some errands, came back and sat by the fire and read books. Then we watched a movie and fell asleep. It was a test run for the future. I'm not sure when real retirement is going to happen but I know it is going to be amazing. taken in Seattle, Washington by @bartcheever
