Celebrating five years of BasBlue 💙

I feel incredibly blessed to experience this place in so many different ways over the years, through programming, fellowships, buying art, meeting good people, and now camping.

I had such a good time celebrating 5 years of a space that has genuinely been a part of my growth over the years.

Thank you to @basblueus and @mimetroparks for helping me prove that I do indeed leave the city sometimes. Here’s to many more. 🥂 by @basblueus

We took 30 minutes to step away from our desks, release some tension, and reset our bodies. ✨

Led by Lauryn Thomas, Co-Founder of Detroit Movement Collective, this lunch-break session brought together guided stretching and mobility work to help everyone move more freely and return to the day feeling refreshed.

With her background as a former collegiate basketball athlete and more than eight years of coaching experience, Lauryn led the group through accessible movement focused on mobility, strength, and injury.

Detroit Movement Collective went through our Future Leaders Club Cohort last year and we are always happy to have them back in the house.

Would you join us for the next one?

“One of my big goals as a designer is to bring inspiration to others to find the same love for sewing that I did. Being able to see everyone leave with something they made with their own two hands and will actually use is magical. And it’s also healing to bond with others and unplug for a few hours!” - Crystal Robinson

Recently, we collaborated with our member Crystal Robinson of Robinson Textiles and hosted a tote making class.

Crystal fashion designer, opening her own garment boutique. In addition to creating her own space to host sewing classes like these she is also committed to bringing a garment district to Detroit. We are a fashion city, it’s time we show the world who we are. Crystal is doing just that.

At BasBlue we dedicated to showcasing our members in a way that is organic to who they are, what they do, and why they are important to our community.

Follow her along her journey and tell her we sent you @devil_inachiffondress. 💙

Another school year introduces a new cohort of Future Founders Club! 💙

This past year, our students stepped outside the classroom and into new opportunities, from visiting Northwestern University and exploring Chicago’s entrepreneurship ecosystem to gaining hands-on experience through paid summer internships with Detroit businesses and nonprofits.

Students explored entrepreneurship, marketing, wellness, customer service, leadership, and more while building confidence, professional skills, and meaningful connections. They also had opportunities to learn from women entrepreneurs, experience new environments, and begin imagining what their own futures could look like.

Over the Summer in partnership with @gdytdetroit we had two Future Founders intern at BasBlue, and it went like this.

Now, we’re getting ready to do it all again! As we prepare for the next school year, we’re looking for mentors who are ready to share their time, knowledge, and experiences with the next generation of leaders.

Interested in becoming a Future Founders mentor? Stay tuned for more information on how you can get involved! 💙

Five years of BasBlue and it feels like a dream.

Five years of community, connection, and creating what comes next.

Five years, and we are just getting started. 💙

On September 18, we celebrated The Fifth Act, a night dedicated to the people, partnerships, and moments that have shaped BasBlue over the past five years.

This milestone belongs to everyone who has walked through our doors, shared their story, supported our work, and helped make BasBlue what it is.

To our members, partners, sponsors, vendors, volunteers, and team: thank you for making these first five years unforgettable.

A special thank you to Jennifer Gilbert, Mondo Unlimited, and everyone who helped bring The Fifth Act to life.

And to our Vendors and partners: @tola__corporate, Universal Special Events Inc., 313 Ricky Events and beyond, @modernlyevents, Time to Play, Roam, Benjamin Sharkey, @detroitcircus, Crazy Craig Wise, Silver Platter Staffing, Marty Matt, Stardust, @maisonfarola #, Chris & Glorie, @leemediahouse_, @infinity_printing_detroit_ and @eventsourcerental.

Thank you, we couldn't have done this without you.

The first five years were just the opening act. We’re only getting started. 🥂

Who gets to shape the spaces we share?

Moderated by our CEO Ellen Gilchrist, this powerful conversation brings together Amy McMillan, CEO of Huron-Clinton Metroparks; Leona Medley, Executive Director of the Joe Louis Greenway Partnership; and Dr. Meagan Elliott, President and CEO of the Belle Isle Conservancy.

Together on Tuesday, September 29, they’ll explore what it takes to create, preserve, and reimagine green spaces that reflect and serve the communities around them.

Because green spaces are more than places to gather. They’re places to connect, breathe, move, and build community. 💚 taken in BasBlue by @basblueus
