I got scammed with a fake Pokémon card at 9 years old and didn’t find out for 20 years 😭 This is the actual fake from my childhood binder, still don’t know where it came from. Today we’re teaching you how to catch what I couldn’t: the light test. Real Pokémon cards have a black layer in the middle so light won’t pass through. Fakes glow right through it. Part 2 drops soon with test number 2, follow so you don’t miss it!

Channeling my inner @psaprofessor again with round 2 of cross or cry. Got this card from someone who had graded a few cards from their childhood collection so I knew that had only had one owner and based on the scans, it was kept in great shape! When I cracked it out, I really couldn’t find any issues and decided to give CGC a try since PSA is still a disaster.

Let me know - did you think PSA’s 8 was fair or do you agree that they are wayyy too harsh on vintage?

Let’s free a bubble mew from its unjust PSA 9 prison and see what CGC thinks.

Has PSA been overly harsh on some of your cards?
Would you ever try CGC? Let me know!

I tried sending pokemon cards recently to grade through @collect with CGC. While the service seems like a good option, has their volume now gotten to a place where other areas take a hit? This order was delayed multiple weeks due to a double invoice error. So I withdrew most cards instead of auctioning, only to have cards get damaged due to sub par shipping.

Credit where it’s due…customer service responsiveness is super quick. The result wasn’t what I hoped but thankfully I hadn’t sent anything super valuable. Definitely something to consider if sending higher end stuff or withdrawing items from their vault right now.

If they crack your old cert PSA 10, it’s going to have to get regraded and likely won’t 10. They’re just going to give you the reholder fee…I can’t imagine “good faith” will equate to the delta between the 10 and new grade if they won’t even give me full cost to reholder a couple cheap cards. Something to think about

What have your experiences been like?

What’s your therapists name? …pokemon. Best therapy in the world is doing anything you find enjoyment in…with your kids. Ultra bonus points if it’s nostalgic for you and nostalgic for them in 30 years.

Hey @collect - I think I speak on behalf of all humans when I say…can we get a new packing method? It’d be one thing if it was the best practice but 4 of my slabs were broken and now there’s peanuts everywhere 😂

If you’re on team packing peanut, please tell me why

Part 4 of don’t get scammed with Fake Pokemon Cards! According to our LGS these are the ones they see most often in binders that kids bring in. Parents or relatives that don’t know anything about Pokemon might pick up a stack of these for a couple dollars thinking they’re doing a nice thing. But then they end up at school or other places and get passed around and traded for real cards. Make sure your kids can spot them!

Let us know what your ideas are for our next one!

Be honest…are you buying this PSA 10 just because it says 10? Is there a world where you’d rather have a CGC 10 that looks better than the PSA 10? Vendor or collector, doesn’t matter, let me know in the comments!
