Back to Bates weekend, brought to you by the PERFECT fall weekend in Maine, plenty of fresh Wallingford apple cider & donuts, and all the Bobcat family time we could ask for.

Honestly, Maine was showing off a little bit this weekend. 🍁🍂🐾 by @batessoftball

Started practice with some races today and things got competitive pretty quick!

From there, just a really good day of work. Lots of energy, lots of reps, and a group that continues to show up ready to compete 💪 taken in Bates College Athletics by @batessoftball

Yesterday was about showing up for something bigger than ourselves.

The Dempsey Challenge is such an incredible event—honoring those we’ve lost, standing beside those still fighting, celebrating survivors, and supporting the people who love them through it all.

I’m so proud of my team for showing up for this cause with so much energy, love, and heart. They volunteered, cheered, encouraged, and supported every person who crossed their path.

Great athletes, but even better people. This is what being part of a team is all about.

And for me, every step was for Jenna. 🌻

Four years starts right here. 🐾

Six new Bobcats, a whole lot of stuff moved into dorm rooms, and probably a few parents not quite ready to drive away.

#1 IN THE NATION! 🐾

Last year, this group finished third in Division III and saw that as a challenge. They showed up, put in the work, and brought the same effort, discipline, and commitment to the classroom that they bring to the field every day.

A 3.86 team GPA and the top academic team in NCAA Division III. This is all them, and I couldn’t be prouder to be their coach. Go Bobcats!

The @batessoftball team’s grade-point average of 3.86 is the highest in all of NCAA Division III‼️ Announced by @nfcaorg.

“This is all them,” head coach Kat McKay said. “Last year, we finished third in Division III, and this group saw that as a challenge. They showed up, put in the work, and brought the same effort, discipline, and commitment to the classroom that they bring to the field every day. To now be the top academic team in the country is something really special, and I couldn’t be prouder to be their coach.”

Bates is the only NESCAC school in the top 10 of Division III, as University of Hartford (3.818), Pomona-Pitzer (3.799), Johnson & Wales University (R.I.) (3.782), and Wheaton College (Mass.) (3.771) round out the top five.

Not surprisingly, the entire roster of 17 Bates softball players all earned Easton/NFCA All-America Scholar-Athlete honors for the 2025-26 academic year. The award is bestowed by the NFCA upon college softball players who post a 3.5 or higher grade-point average.

Led by McKay, Bates continues to thrive on and off the diamond, as the Bobcats celebrated 50 years of Bates softball this past spring and are coming off a 17-win season and a NESCAC tournament bid.
