The Roper Gallery is a large contemporary exhibition space at Bath Artists’ Studios, right in the heart of Bath’s creative scene. Set within a working studio complex, it’s more than just a place to showcase your work - hiring here is a chance to connect with other artists, experiment with new concepts and engage with the public. The Roper’s contemporary setting also makes it a brilliant backdrop for capturing high-quality shots of your work, perfect for portfolios or future promotion. Our aim is an exciting, ever-changing programme of new work. You’ll learn how to capture the details and textures of flowers in plaster, creating your own detailed cast to take home at the end of the session. We’ve had a busy September with not one but three art trails and open studios 😅 Now it’s October and we’re very excited to invite submissions to our group exhibition @artatheartruh! Set to take place in the central corridor of the RUH from 16th November 2026 - February 2027, the theme is your take on “Whatever the Weather”. You can be as literal or as whimsical as you like! Your work will be seen by many, many visitors, patients, and staff who pass through, providing a hugely positive experience, with many uplifting stories of how the art on the walls has helped in often difficult and sad times. All artists can apply if they have taken part in one of the eight art trails and open studios in Bath: @thebatheastonarttrail @bathartistsstudios @bearflatartists @cdarttrail @larkhallopenstudios @newbridgeartstrail @widcombearttrail @studio44ad 2D artwork of any size and medium is welcome but ideally no bigger than 90cm x 90cm (including frame if applicable) though larger pieces welcome. Tony at the RUH advises not to submit box canvases or work that isn’t behind glass, though in some instances it may be OK (such as a wooden relief wall piece). 3D pieces are limited to 30cm in depth and height owing to the size of the glass wall cabinet. Any medium including statement jewellery is acceptable (no earrings). There is no fee to submit work. If work is selected, the RUH requires a hanging fee of £5 for one piece, £7.50 for two pieces. This is payable for both 2D and 3D work. The RUH also takes a third in sales commission which goes directly to their Art at the Heart campaign, ensuring quality artwork can continue to inspire the walls of the hospital. Closing date for submissions is extended to midnight 14 October 2026! Have you heard of Patchwork Project 26? @bathsocietyofartists turns 30 this year, and is inviting the people of Bath to create a huge community patchwork quilt that reflects life in the city today. We have an excellent opportunity to get involved this Saturday and make your own patch at the Share and Repair Hub - you don't need to be a skilled sewist to take part! Come along, embroider a patch on raw silk, and write your feelings about 'What Bath Means To Me'. The fabric will get wrapped around the paper, leaving your words somewhat visible on the back. As Suse, one of the artists supporting the project and a volunteer at Share and Repair said, the patches will get "all joined together as the personal reflections of individuals in communities across the city in 2026". 📅 Saturday 3rd October ⏰ 2 - 5pm 📍 Share and Repair Hub, Lower Bristol Road BA2 3EW If you're not able to make it this Saturday, you can pop into Bath Library (Fridays 10am - 12pm) or St. James Wine Vaults (Wednesdays 3 - 4:45pm) to make your own square by the 15th of October. The finished patchwork will be exhibited at the @americanmuseumandgardens on Thanksgiving, Saturday the 26th November. A wonderful collection of drawings created by children during the free zine-making workshop at our Open Studios, led by @funkyarthouse. Funky Art House has been based at Bath Artists' Studios for almost 15 years, running creative art classes for children and young people. Their programme includes a wide range of after-school and holiday workshops, providing opportunities for local children to explore their creativity, meet others and enjoy making art together.
