๐ŸŽWHO ARE WE

Founded by Inner Mongoliaโ€™s Bayin Mengke Investment Group, Bayin Foundation is a cultural platform connecting heritage, contemporary art, and diverse knowledge systems across cultures.

Based at 7 Grange Road, Singapore, the Foundation is housed in a historic black-and-white house set among lush greenery.

Once a colonial-era residence, the house reflects Singaporeโ€™s layered cultural history, combining the elegance of Victorian architecture with the ventilation principles of traditional Malay stilt houses.

๐Ÿฆ… OUR VISION

Bayin Foundation is a cultural platform dedicated to preserving, revitalizing, and reimagining indigenous and local knowledge systems across the Silk Road Belt.

We work closely with communities to research, document, and share cultural knowledge, while creating greater international visibility and supporting local cultural ecosystems.

We also seek to embrace cultural diversity by bringing greater visibility to underrepresented artists, contemporary craft practices, and cultural narratives from the Global South and beyond Eurocentric frameworks.

Through exhibitions, research, and cultural exchange, we create space for diverse artistic voices and knowledge systems to enter global conversations โ€” not as alternatives to one another, but as different perspectives that can coexist, connect, and inspire new ways of seeing the world.

From indigenous knowledge to contemporary art, from traditional craft to new creative practices, Bayin Foundation seeks to build connections between heritage, contemporary life, and future possibilities.

Across cultures, paper is more than a surface for drawing or writing. It carries stories, preserves memories, and connects generations through knowledge and craftsmanship.

From delicate paper works to experimental forms, artists continue to explore its texture, fragility, and versatility, transforming an everyday material into new artistic possibilities.

In this series, WHEN ARTISTS..., we explore recurring materials, ideas, and creative methods that connect cultures across time and place.

EP.10 โ€” Saudi Arabia @saudipavilion

What remains when the places that hold our memories begin to disappear?

Our tenth stop is the Saudi Arabia Pavilion, presenting May your tears never dry, you who weep over stones by artist Dana Awartani @danaawartanistudio , curated by Antonia Carver @antoniamcarver.

Taking the form of an archaeological site, the installation transforms the entire pavilion floor into a monumental mosaic. Thousands of handmade clay tiles draw on patterns and motifs from heritage sites across the Arab world, including Palestine, Syria, and Lebanon.

Made from natural muds and clays, the tiles are deliberately left without binding agents, allowing them to crack as they dry. Their fragility becomes part of the work itself โ€” a material reminder of how cultural heritage can be vulnerable to war, destruction, and time.

Walking across the mosaic, visitors move through an imagined landscape of shared histories. Geometric, floral, and animal motifs connect different places and traditions, revealing cultural heritage not as something belonging to one place alone, but as a shared memory carried across generations.

For Bayin Foundation, the exhibition offers another way of thinking about loss โ€” not simply as what has disappeared, but as what we choose to remember, preserve, and carry forward.

What can light do beyond simply illuminating a space?

This September, Venice is shining a special spotlight on craftsmanship with @homofaber, whose fourth biennial, An Island of Light, explores the relationship between light, materials, and the human hand.

Led by Artistic Director @esdevlin , the exhibition transforms light into a material of its ownโ€”using water, mirrors, movement, and reflection to reveal the creativity of artisans from around the world.

Inspired by this yearโ€™s theme, this edition of WHEN ARTISTS... looks at artists who work with light in different waysโ€”from illumination and projection to shadow, reflection, and light as an artistic medium.

Follow us for more stories connecting art, craft, materials, and different knowledge systems.

This week, Venice celebrates the 10th anniversary of The @theveniceglassweek โ€”a festival dedicated to celebrating, supporting, and promoting the art of glassmaking.

Across cultures, glass is more than a material. Its transparency, fragility, light, and endless possibilities have inspired artists to explore new forms, techniques, and ways of seeing.

To celebrate this special occasion, we look at how artists work with glassโ€”transforming a centuries-old material into contemporary works of art.

In this series, WHEN ARTISTSโ€ฆ, we explore recurring materials, ideas, and creative methods that connect cultures across time and place.

EP.9 โ€” Mexico @bienaldeveneciamx

What if the most powerful acts are the ones we never see?

Our ninth stop is the Mexico Pavilion, presenting Actos invisibles para sostener el universo by artist collective RojoNegro @rojonegro.ome โ€” Mariฬa Sosa @maria_sosa_ruiz and Noeฬ Martiฬnez @radioimaginario โ€” curated by Jessica Berlanga Taylor. @jessica_berlanga_taylor

The exhibition invites us to pause within the noise of the contemporary world. Through installation, performance, sound, and organic materials, RojoNegro activates ancestral memory and ritual technologies, bringing together decolonial perspectives, relational ecologies, and Indigenous, Afro-Mexican, and rural cosmologies.

Salt, clay, and tobacco become more than materials. They form a sensory constellation of memory, while breath, sound, and the movement of the body create a rhythm between humans, territories, and the earth. A line of salt traces a path through the space, connecting bird-shaped vessels and evoking the passage of time, transformation, and interdependence.

EP.8 โ€” Macao @macao_museum_of_art @artmacao

What happens when a journey across cultures remains unfinished?

Our eighth stop is the Macao Pavilion, presenting Polyphony of Jacone, curated by Feng Yan and Cindy Ng Sio Ieng, with artists Huo Kaisheng @eric_fok_ , Ko Chi Wai @oswei129 , and Lei Fong Ieng.

Named after Wu Liโ€™s Portuguese name, Jacone, the exhibition follows his journey to Macao in the early Qing dynasty. Once hoping to travel onward to Rome, Wu Li remained in Macao, where he encountered Chinese and Western cultures, faiths, and ideas.

Through painting, installation, and moving image, the artists revisit this unfinished journey, connecting fragments of history with questions of migration, identity, memory, and cultural exchange.

EP.7 โ€” Tuฬˆrkiye @turkiyepavilion.venice

What does it mean to be close without crossing a boundary?

Our seventh stop is the Tuฬˆrkiye Pavilion, presenting A Kiss on the Eyes by artist Nilbar Guฬˆresฬง.

Taking its title from the Turkish expression Goฬˆzlerinizden oฬˆperim, traditionally used to convey affection and respect, the exhibition explores intimacy, distance, and the ways we relate to one another. Through sculpture, installation, painting, video, textiles, and mixed media, Guฬˆresฬง reflects on gender, migration, belonging, and everyday power relations.

For Bayin Foundation, the exhibition offers another way of thinking about connectionโ€”not simply through closeness, but through care, awareness, and respect for boundaries.

EP.6 โ€” Morocco @moroccopavilion_venice

What if weaving could hold memory?

Our next stop is the Kingdom of Morocco Pavilion.

Titled Asวtฬฃtฬฃa, the exhibition by Moroccan artist @aminaagueznay draws from Amazigh ritual weaving, where weaving brings together technical skill, prayer, and memory. For over two decades, Agueznay has worked closely with Moroccan artisans and local communities, transforming vernacular knowledge into contemporary forms.

For Bayin Foundation, Asวtฬฃtฬฃa is a powerful example of how traditional knowledge can be transmitted, transformed, and reimaginedโ€”while remaining connected to its place of origin.

EP.5 โ€” Mongolia @mongoliapavilion2026venezia

This is a pavilion especially close to our hearts.

Rooted in Mongolian culture, Bayin Foundation has long been committed to supporting artistic and cultural practices from Mongolia and the wider steppe region. Earlier this year, we had the privilege of presenting works by several artists now representing the Mongolia Pavilion in our exhibition, The Spirit of Tengri.

Titled Entanglements: Connectivities Across Borders, the pavilion looks beyond political boundaries to reveal centuries of exchange across Eurasia. Through contemporary art, it reconnects Mongolia and Venice through histories of migration, diplomacy, trade, and shared cultural encounters.

Welcome to Augustโ€”the season of holidays and the height of summer๏ผ
