Business owners at a seafront venue made out of upcycled shipping containers said profits would take a "huge hit" if events were stopped due to noise complaints.

East Suffolk Council was asked to consider reviewing the premises licence of The Arena, an entertainment area located within Beach Street, on Sea Road in Felixstowe.

In an application made to the authority, neighbouring residents reported being "subjected to noise disturbance from loud music", with one complaining to the BBC about "booming bass music".

The venue's owners said they "strongly challenge any suggestion" the site had been a "constant source of late-night disturbance".

An onshore wind farm, which would see up to 32 turbines built on agricultural land, has been criticised by politicians.

The proposals for Redmere Wind Farm come from Swedish company Vattenfall and would see the turbines, which are up to 721ft (220m) tall, built on land covering the Cambridgeshire, Norfolk and Suffolk borders.

Tristan Gale, Suffolk County Council’s cabinet member for planning criticised the proposals, saying that the turbines “would be gargantuan and seen from miles around.”

Vattenfall, owned by the Swedish state, said the farm could power nearly 220,000 homes a year, with final plans due to be submitted in autumn 2027.

Due to the size and scale of the project, it is considered a Nationally Significant Infrastructure Project (NSIP), meaning the eventual planning decision will be made by the government, rather than a local council.

CCTV footage has captured two balaclava-clad men using a pickaxe to steal a farm shop's empty safe. ⛏
Police were called to Haughley Herdwicks farm shop near Stowmarket at 22:30 BST on Sunday, following reports of a burglary in progress.
Suffolk Police said the safe was later pulled from the shop using a vehicle and tow rope.
The box was empty as it is now a cashless business - but extensive damage means the shop will remain closed until further notice. Police are reviewing CCTV and have appealed for information. by @bbcsuffolk

A primary school has been closed over road safety concerns sparked by the removal of a zebra crossing installed incorrectly.
Governors at Lakenheath Community Primary School said there had already been "several near-miss incidents" outside its gates prior to the decision.
In a statement, they said the closure would provide time for them to speak to Suffolk County Council about a resolution.
The Reform UK-led authority has been contacted for comment.

An animal lover whose plans for a £2m wildlife hospital were twice rejected hopes it can still be built after intervention by the Planning Inspectorate.

Sue Stubley, the founder of the Suffolk Hedgehog Hospital, wants to build Long Acre Wildlife Hospital on 27 acres of land at Kirtling, near Newmarket, to support vulnerable animals from across Suffolk, Cambridgeshire, Essex and Norfolk.

The project had "insufficient justification", said planning officers at East Cambridgeshire District Council, who rejected the plans in July 2025 and again in January, leading to an appeal to the government's Planning Inspectorate.

Footage showing the moment police smashed the window of a car being driven by an absconded prisoner in Suffolk has been released.
Sonny Loveridge, 28, had been on-the-run for more than three weeks after being granted temporary release from HMP Hollesley Bay when officers eventually located him near Fordham in June.
Suffolk Police said Loveridge failed to stop before he drove into a police vehicle and collided with another car before officers brought the vehicle to a halt.
Already serving an 11-year, eight-month sentence, Loveridge pleaded guilty to being a temporarily released prisoner unlawfully at large, alongside three driving-related offences and was jailed for a further 20 months and banned from driving for 28 months. by @bbcsuffolk

"The video games community is very strong, and they will champion people that love what they do, but they'll also notice if you're in it just for the money."

In 2019, Jarvs Tasker was forced to give up her teaching career due to chronic illness when she was just 28.

Fast forward seven years, and she earns double her former annual salary, running Jarvs Indie Insights, which provides communication and marketing within the gaming industry.

She visited the University of Suffolk's e-sport building in Ipswich to celebrate independent game developers and studios.

"I can comfortably say it probably would have taken me about 20 years in teaching to earn what I make now," she said.

When Tasker left teaching, she initially started volunteering for PlayStation's YouTube channel, but she said there was lots of crossover between the two industries.

"Managing a community is very similar to managing a class of kids, so there's a lot of crossover skills there, but actually, video games is one of those industries where a lot of people come into it later on in life."

Tasker, who lives in Exeter, believed young people might not know the "many pathways" available in the industry.

A man said adopting a child had been a "life-changing" experience as charities warned of a growing shortage of adoptive families.

Shamser, a single father from Ipswich, welcomed Kusum, nine, about two and a half years ago, which he said had been a joy.

Statistics from Adoption England and the charity Coram show children in Suffolk spend 748 days on average waiting to be adopted, compared to the national average of 646.

Sarah Johal, the national strategic lead for Adoption England, said the lack of families coming forward to adopt had contributed to the waiting periods, as a new campaign aimed to bridge the gap.

The inquest into the "very sad and tragic death" of three year old Noah Woods, whose body was found in a pond in Suffolk, was opened and adjourned earlier.

The toddler, who was found dead in a pond following a huge search in the area, had left a playground "through a gap in the fence", the inquest heard.

A search involving more than 1,300 members of the public was carried out in the village of Brantham, on the Suffolk/Essex border, he went missing on 15 September. His body was found the next day in nearby water by police divers.

A tribute issued by Noah's family called him a "happy, cheeky, playful" boy who loved to laugh, with his mother urging other parents to "hold their children a little tighter and cherish every moment".

At the outset of the hearing in Ipswich, which was not attended by family, assistant coroner Jyoti Gill said: "I would like to express my deepest condolences to Noah's family and friends and all those affected by Noah's death." taken in Suffolk by @bbcsuffolk
