Un|Controlled Gestures – 4th Edition

Meet the artists

Emran Alamareen, also known as Bboy Mowgli, is a Bedouin Jordanian dancer from Petra, skilled in both breakdancing and contemporary dance. Starting at age 12, he has performed across the Middle East and Europe, representing Jordan in festivals like On Marche (Morocco) and Alma Alter Ego (Bulgaria). Emran is largely self-taught, with additional training through workshops in contemporary dance, hip-hop, contact improvisation, folk, and modern dance - earning wide recognition in the local and international dance scene.

In his solo, “Believing the told, belying the perceiver –تصدیق الخبر وتكذیب النظر”, Emran Alamareen traces a living connection between past and present and his Bedouin living culture. Through movement, he evokes the resilience of the tent, the persistence of fire, and the pull of the eastern wind across open space. Echoes of nomadic life emerge and fade. Drawing from lived memory and inherited gesture, the work embodies “Dhe’een” – the trips of winter and summer – where the body moves with the land, not on the land.

"Un|Controlled Gestures - 4th Edition" is an initiative of the Goethe-Institutes in North Africa and the Middle East in cooperation with @hauberlin and @hellerau_ (Dresden), curated by @nedjmabrxl .

Mentors of the 4th Edition: @alichahrour1 (choreography), @annegret.schalke (lighting), @youssra.elhawary (sound), @nedjmabrxl (dramatugry)
