Let's talk about some of the most important questions for queer clubs to consider in 2026 and moving forward, so that we can be better, make a longer-lasting impact, and remain in solidarity.

We will ask questions ranging from "How do local politics affect your GSA?" to "How has your club treated the idea of label-essentialism?" Be ready to stimulate your mind and meet others so we can get better collectively.

See you all on Thursday, February 26, 2026 from 6:00pm-8:00pm via Google Meet

After a long wait, Dumont Ordinance #1646 establishing "Standards for Flag Use at Borough Hall and Borough Property" was vetoed by Mayor Russel on 2/14/2025 and confirmed Tuesday night 3/11/2025. If implemented it would ban non-government flags (including the pride flag) at government buildings. It was a tie vote, 3-3, and we want to thank Councilwoman Petry, Councilwoman Aponte, and Councilman Kelly for their decision to say no to this ordinance, and Mayor Russel for vetoing it due to the affect it would have on Dumont culture and representation, including the LGBTQ+ community.
Additionally, we want to thank everyone who was a part of this process, who responded to the call-to-action, protested, spoke to their peers, and shared their feelings. You made an impact. Your presence made an impact. This is simply a small step to a better NJ, but any step is still a step. Genuinely, from the bottom of our hearts. Thank you.

This past Friday, December 6, 2024, was the 7th Bergen County Seeds of Change Youth Leadership GSA Summit. There were about 150 students from nearly 40 different schools throughout Bergen County that discussed effective leadership tactics and how to best serve the LGBTQ+ community in their communities.

Multiple different organizations were in attendance and collaboration to put this together including Alternatives to Domestic Violences (@bergencountyadv) , Bergen New Bridge Medical Center (@newbridgemedicalcenter) NJ4S (@nj4s_bergen ) GLSEN (@glsennnj) , and Garden State Equality (@gsequality ) as well as Bergen County Office of LGBTQ+ Services (@bergencountylgbtqservices ) and the Bergen County LGBTQ+ Advisory Board. We highly recommend you check out each and every one of these resources and share them because we know firsthand just how useful they can be.

Bergen County GSA also had the honor and privilege to present and connect with advisors and students. (That's You All!) We shared our presentation where we discussed the merits of activism, coming together as a community, the importance of community, and shared our resources. This is still the beginning, and even though it has now been one year of BCGSA, there are more things to come! taken in Bergen County by @bcgsa.nj

it's thanksgiving y'all. very grateful to be in the position I'm in, but I also want to use this opportunity to talk about the Indigenous Americans who've suffered which is fundamental to the history of Thanksgiving and the land we live on.

For those of you who don't know, the idea that Thanksgiving was a feast held between natives and colonizers is a myth. That feast was a celebration of colonists for the murder of natives and seizing more land. This land is stolen and I hope that as we move forward as a society we can continue to recognize that part of our history, celebrate our diversity of culture, and look forward to not repeat our old mistakes elsewhere.

Love y'all, and please please please, take this time and check in with the loved ones you don't see often. Check in with those you know may be struggling and let them know how grateful you are for them. Have a great holiday y'all

For everyone who said our videos weren't engaging enough,

#GSA SEMINAR - December 4th - 6:00pm-7:00pm
Bergen County Youth Summit - December 5th

Although the world is falling apart, our non-stop optimism is what keeps us going. Oftentimes, we get stuck in the bubble of our own schools, but remember that you are not alone and that there are hundreds of students throughout the county (and country) fighting for the same protections as you. Many of us have faced similar struggles, and many of us have found solutions with the help of others

If you have any questions or ever are looking for assistance, please DM or email us and drop a follow for more updates on the Bergen County GSA collective.

On Wednesday the Supreme Court failed transgender youth. In a groundbreaking case, United States vs Skrmetti, the Supreme Court decided that it was constitutional for states to ban gender affirming care for minors despite the 14th Amendment's Equal Protection clause.

Featured is a quote from Bergen County GSA's Co-President, Eddi W. Raymond, "Legislators make laws like the one disputed in Skrmetti v. US under the guise of protecting children. If this were their true desire, they would see the number of people positively affected by gender affirming care, and recognize the damage this decision will create not only to the children themselves but also to our collective perception of transgender individuals. As a society, we not only need to recognize the struggle of trans individuals but also fight for them by providing actual comprehensive legislation, mass education, and a collective change in culture. This means more than changing a logo or putting a hashtag on a post; this means abandoning the position of a moderate and fighting for liberation, not placation. To all my transgender and non-gender-conforming siblings, no decision can invalidate your reality. Stand up for yourself, because somebody has to."

Text: [Statement of Support for Garden State Equality Worker's United. Bergen County GSA whole-heartedly supports the Garden State Equality Workers Union.

Creating change is not just about saying you want change and fighting bigotry is not just about saying that bigotry is bad. Creating change is about action. But one person alone does not create change. People together create change. The power of collective bargaining and working together with your peers is what makes the world a better place for everyone in it.

The rights of LGBTQIA+ people, especially youth, are increasingly under attack in all walks of life by all levels of government. Unions are one of the best and most important ways for people to stand together and fight for their rights and, by extension, the rights of everyone. Unions are a rejection of the powers that seek to strip people of their freedoms and are an incredible tool for fighting back.

We recognize this—the struggle of workers to be treated fairly and to have their voices heard—and hope that Garden State Equality will rise to the occasion and work with the Garden State Equality Workers Union to create a better, more inclusive, and more fair environment for all of their workers. - Addison Almagor (they/it) Bergen County GSA Board Member] taken in New Jersey by @bcgsa.nj
