Calling all recent Graduates!

Now you’ve completed your degree and the dust has started to settle a little, we know many of you will be thinking about your next steps. If an MA is something that you’re considering, either now or in the future, please join us for a lovely open event at Margaret Street School of Art. Tuesday 25th August, 2-4pm.

This event includes course talks about the four MA’s in the department of Art and Design at BCU: MA Viscom, MA Future Media, MA Fine Art, and MA Arts and Education Practices. You can also have a portfolio review, and get valuable advice and support from staff.

The event coincides with the MA Final Year Shows so you can see the student work and talk to the students themselves. As a BCU graduate you also get a 20% reduction on your fees!

We hope to see you there #postgraduatestudy #birminghamcityuniversity

Wow, what a fantastic day we spent with the amazing year 9 students from King Edwards VI Northfield School today! They came in for a taste of illustration, and they all rose to the challenge!
They drew dogs...lots and lots of dogs, and then pushed and played with their ideas before creating 2 layered risograph outcomes in the afternoon.
We were incredibly impressed with their work, and even more impressed with their engagement and positivity. Well done guys, it was an absolute pleasure!
(We can't tag you in the post, but we hope you get to see it!)

Hi, I’m Evie Sharpless
BA (Hons) Illustration
@bcuillustration

My work explores storytelling through visual language, often delving into comics and symbolic illustrations about my lived experiences.

I’m inspired by horror comic artists E.M. Carroll and Junji Ito, their styles of visual storytelling and attention to detail. My comic adaptation of Edgar Allan Poe’s ‘The Tell-Tale Heart’ explores the horror of the original story in a limited, six page format.

Hi, I’m Leah Smith.
BA (Hons) Illustration @bcuillustration
My work explores narrative illustration within a singular image by using intentional colour palettes, figures and composition.
I’m inspired by Bruno Mangyoku, Malika Favre, James Weston Lewis, Haley Tippmann, Tom Haugomat and many more, as they use bold colours and compositions.
After graduation, I wish to continue exploring editorial and publishing illustration, whilst branching out to advertising, design and print.
