We are delighted to launch our guide on the @bloombergconnects Arts+Culture app! 🎉

The free app provides interactive guides to over 1500 museums, galleries, and other cultural spaces worldwide, and has over 1 million users.

Funded by Bloomberg and managed by @artukdotorg, it presents an exciting way to raise the museum’s visibility locally and globally and to enhance our digital offer.

Our team have compiled a selection of collection highlights, tours and exhibitions for our guide, designed to enhance both in-person visits and remote access to our collection.

Locally, we join @rammuseum and University of Exeter Botanic Gardens @universityofexetergrounds on the app, and internationally, we join the likes of the @academymuseum Museum of Motion Pictures in Los Angeles.

The guide can be viewed online or downloaded via any app store - link in bio!

We will also be hosting a launch event in September, so please do join us to try out the app!

⚔️ The Battle of Hastings was fought on this day in 1066!

The decisive victory for William Duke of Normandy marked the beginning of the Norman Conquest of England. The conquest and battle was immortalised in the Bayeux Tapestry, an almost 70 metre long embroidery of 58 scenes of images and words creating a continuous narrative.
But from the perspective of our museum, the tapestry represents an early example of the panorama. The panorama as a popular spectacle dates to the mid nineteenth century, where paintings of topographical views and historical events thrilled audiences through immersion in a 360-degree environment. The tapestry, believed to have been made in Canterbury in the 1070s before its removal to Normandy, is an early medieval equivalent, and we hold several items relating to it.

The tapestry is still gripping audiences almost a 1000 years since it was made, with over a million people expected to see it at the @britishmuseum in London. Are you going to see it? 👀

🎞️ The Museum had a stand at Exeter UK Gaming and Comic Con on Sunday to promote our incredible collections to a whole new audience!

We also made a few friends in the actors section where we were based, meeting some amazing artists of the big and small screen!

Chris Barrie of Red Dwarf, @guillaumerivaud of Poldark, Carl Newman @balletbat1989 from Batman and @nathanjpegler, who has appeared in countless TV series all visited our stand. It was an absolute pleasure to meet them all! ⭐️

We had a fantastic time at the International Magic Lantern Society Convention this weekend!

It was great to see so many types of lantern in action, experience the wonder of so many shows and to meet an international community of lanternists and enthusiasts from 19 different countries! Thank you to the @magiclantern_society for hosting us at @mac_birmingham.

We've returned with an impressive haul of slides to add to our collection at the Bill Douglas Cinema Museum.

Magic lantern mania continues this week in Exeter with lanternist Richard Crangle putting on a show @nixpriory, produced by @lightbearlane this Thursday 15th with live musical accompaniment - don't miss it!

Join us for Exeter's Only Magic Lantern Show! ✨️

During this special nineteenth-century-inspired evening, you will experience the enchanting world of magic lanterns - the most popular form of moving images before cinema.

The evening will bring to life not only the history of magic lanterns but also give us a taste of what these shows would have been like.

With a screen specially designed for the atmospheric Great Hall at St Nicholas Priory, live musical accompaniment for our stories and a pop-up display from The Bill Douglas Cinema Museum's extensive collections of magic lantern slides and ephemera, it'll be a unique experience.

Doors open at 6:45 - ticket link in bio!
