Join us for Exeter's Only Magic Lantern Show! ✨️

During this special nineteenth-century-inspired evening, you will experience the enchanting world of magic lanterns - the most popular form of moving images before cinema.

The evening will bring to life not only the history of magic lanterns but also give us a taste of what these shows would have been like.

With a screen specially designed for the atmospheric Great Hall at St Nicholas Priory, live musical accompaniment for our stories and a pop-up display from The Bill Douglas Cinema Museum's extensive collections of magic lantern slides and ephemera, it'll be a unique experience.

Doors open at 6:45 - ticket link in bio!

I found out some concerning news today that the @the_cinema_museum in london only has 5 months to raise £500,000 to secure its future. I would very much like to help save the museum thats why i am making this post. As someone who used to volunteer at @bdcmuseum in exeter, I believe that institutions such as the cinema museum in elephant and castle are important for the preservation of film as an art form

The link to the crowdfunder will be in my story. Please go support the campaign

Amidst the ongoing job threats at Exeter, the research and its value continues. The Times of today reports on my most recent project, the way 19th c estate agents used 'cosmoramic' views to create virtual experiences of high end properties. Victorian Rightmove for the newly monied. More news reports forthcoming; reposted on Bluesky by Hetan Shah, Director of British Academy and described as 'very cool'. Links below to The Times piece (behind paywall). Final image here is just one of the many advertisements; this one from 1842, describing the 'cosmoramic gallery'.
