Two French men on the island of Föhr/Germany this week. Beautiful late R4; partially repainted but a nice tool for driving to the beach or suoermarket or where ever to. And, yes:, „La Smart“ also qualifies for #frenchfriday as she was manufactured at the „Europôle“ industrial area in Hambach en Lorraine 🇫🇷 - now the place where the „Ineos“ kind of landrover-alike are manufactured. But that may be a different post 🇫🇷 taken in Wyk auf Föhr by @be.rnd536

Unexpected Encounter #26

After fabulous days of MONTE Gipfeltreffen together with Porsche Deutschland in southern France we wanted to figure out „Les Voiles de St. Tropez“ to watch most impressive sailing boats competing. Yet, we could only catch a glimpse of the sailing activity for the area was expectedly jammed with traffic. When refuelling for home along the road from Ramatuelle to St. Tropez there was a sudden brutal roar - and DeTomaso Mangusta entered the scene! 401 were produced between 1967 and 1970 (so more rare than the famed Lamborghini Miura). Design by Giorgetto Giugiaro. This one comes with the very significant (and sort of famous - see Wiki) UK license plate „gee5e“ and is #357 with chassis 8MA-1216, the color is „apple green“. Following our conversation the very friendly owner was so kind to allow some shots and „turned on the music“: If you hear it you feel beamed back to the sixties/seventies and you would not be surprised if celebrities like Gunther Sachs with Brigitte Bardot were driving their way back from plage pampelonne 🇫🇷 - the age of lush life ♥️ and all what comes with it - the „roar“ as a call of times gone by - or a call for the future? taken in Saint Tropez-Ramatuelle by @be.rnd536

Hamburg always comes with a surprise: Having just returned from Sicily with @jobjoris and @nicolafesta76 I ran into a Jeep Grand Wagoneer 1st generation today. This early SUV (the term was not even created) was manufactured from 1963 to 1991 with an almost unchanged body!!! Fits perfect into the scenery around the Aussenalster, don‘t you think @reflectingstyles ? Happy and thankful to be in Hamburg and the North again, the great wide open of Germany! taken in Winterhude, Hamburg, Germany by @be.rnd536

I give up: Could not do not posting!!!! So here’s a reel with few shots from our personal #targafloriomemorial2026 (based on the initial idea after a visit of the @libreriadellautomobile in Milano in spring 🇮🇹 The biggest thank yous ever to my friends @jobjoris (proven mastermind of all things automotive; man, you know so much!!!) @nicolafesta76 (paving the way with his beautiful Porsche 911 997.2 to italian soul, heart and language) @enza6312 (and of course her husband Francesco racing his Spyder RS like in the old days) @agriturismodispenza (for the lovely and fantastic hospitality) @casaledrinzi (great food and the historic „Panda transfer after dinner“) @ma.camma (for more great food from the Targa Food Restaurant & Pizzeria and „Benzingespraeche“ with him and his father Guiseppe) and all the friendly people of Collesano/Sicilia primed with automotive love, fuel, caffè, full of car love and told and untold stories about the days long gone of the Targa Florio since 1906 ♥️ by @be.rnd536

A religious experience. That’s how I’d subscribe the last few days on Sicily. When I drove the “circuito piccolo delle Madonie”, of Targa Florio fame, for the first time in 2014 it was still somewhat pioneering around. But amazing. So when Bernd (@be.rnd536) and Nicola (@nicolafesta76) asked if we should go there again I immediately jumped in.
And a lot has changed. Positively. As road signs are added. The old stands at the start are being renovated. And what I didn’t see in 2014: the way the good people of Collesano, our HQ these days and the city that houses the Targa Florio Museo, eat, sleep and breath the Targa Florio.
So is it a wonder you see, while zipping our “caffè” and talking to some locals, a Mercedes-Benz 170D driving by that appears to be driven there all the way from Germany? Maybe not.

#mittelmotormontag is on two excellent midengined Porsches I got to try last few days in Switzerland/on Sicily: Porsche’s 982 platform. Bernd’s (@be.rnd536) lovely Cayman GTS and Francesco’s (il marito di @enza6312) Spyder RS. And on the Sicilian roads with some rain especially the latter on semi-slicks proved to be a handful. But extremely fun. Thanks for the trust Bernd & Francesco, amazed by this and a tad jealous on the wheels you have!

Front loading this morning in Collesano/Sicilia 🇮🇹 Our personal „Targa Florio Memorial 2026“ comes to an end. With all the wonderful moments, views, roads, potholes, overwhelmingly friendly people spontaneously met together with @jobjoris @nicolafesta76 with all of the great food and thrilling drives: I still do not know what to post (so much material!), maybe this will be the only picture. Yes. Back in Sicily after quite some time. And there was actually a nice 2CV Transat (or France3 or Beachcomber depending on where you bought it) to be found in Collesano where we have our Sicilian homebase (@agriturismodispenza). We (Bernd - @be.rnd536, Nicola - @nicolafesta76 and me) were just driving so fast I had a hard time capturing it. So, during a highly illegal 4-man FIAT Panda Van trip at night, returning from a perfect restaurant (@casaledrinzi) I found time to capture it in the dark to show you picture 3 in all it’s dark glory! And yes: I think it’s a tad hard to find a non-Italian car from this era over here.
