Overjoyed to share ‘UNION’ (demo) released today on ‘Measure, Pour & Mixtape: Music for Cooking’ conceived in the minds of @spinstersounds in 2021 (link in their bio)..

‘We envisioned an auditory cookbook of songs, poems, field recordings, and aural experiments..
After a year in which dining together en masse was not possible, what is it about the experience of collective eating that you want to express gratitude for? What is your food hymn?’

UNION sings a blessing over my community in Lesvos, Greece, people seeking sanctuary from war & oppression, alongside those serving practically & in prayer for justice on the Island. Amidst lockdowns, we found life in practicing simple rhythms. Sharing the bread, and the wine for renewal. Jesus said “I am the bread of life”, so I hoped to echo that.

Phone clips of that time share a glimpse into one of many picnics with Kurdish, Syrian, Afghan & Congolese families and the generous side of Greek hospitality, the philosophy of ‘philoxenia’, meaning ‘friend to the stranger’.

Collected field recordings are from my neighbours field of goat bells as well as the Aegean Sea, that takes so many lives in the crossing to Greece! Contrasted by hope-filled sounds of praise gatherings in many languages creates a context for this ode to communion. A ritual of faith & friendship, remembering our invitation into spiritual freedom, of hope despite the circumstances.

Dear friends, consider this an open invitation to visit, support & collaborate with these beautiful humans @radmusicint on Lesvos, creating hope & opportunities to grow amidst the justice crisis..Our platforms are the only way to make known the atrocities on the Island while the media stay silent! Dm for info x

1. An honour & privilege to sing these words with people who’ve experienced their dark reality first hand. 🙏🏾

2. Deeply moved by Rad guitar teacher @fact_of_elnino_666 singing his heart out.. an Afghan song about a man waking from a dream only to realise he’s all alone. Looking forward to helping with his own songwriting journey

3. Profoundly beautiful sharing circle held by incredible @lamprini_mpls at the end of the session, acknowledging what emotions came up 🔥

4&5 Rudy, founder of R.A.D Music intl (Refugees African Dance), sharing vulnerable insights to his experience & response in song!

6. Bob empowering us all, as he does!

7. Just as people fought to close Moria camp hailed hell on earth in 2016, we must stand against the new hell, isolated camp opening Feb 2023! Follow @now_you_see_me_moria for how

8. A grave image of where hope fades. All the people liberated from Iran, Afghanistan, Congo, Somalia + more will be indefinitely held here in despair, deprived of human rights!

9. A picture of what love & a thriving international family can look like & the most precious last day living on the island 🙏🏾♥️

10. Freedom songs for sanctuary seekers. Link still live in bio 🕊

Everyone was ‘in the room’ which is beautiful in times we see through screens.. here’s a glimpse through the crowd. Our sacred pitch black moment at the end was an ode to the lives seeking refuge that don’t make it to safety in Lament for the Lost & a call to love our neighbours as ourselves in No Borders on the Soul.

This song Rolling On acknowledges the suffering of our human experience & offers a window of hope, written in 2016 yet has more meaning as time goes on

Thank u @grimmgrimmuk for the space to experiment, you wonderful percussionists & sweet sound man Ivan 🔥🕊

We’ll gather to play & record full band soon enough, till then, feel free to reach out for deep convo’s or prayer, it’s what the music’s a catalyst for after all.

Some questions on my heart in these times of rebuilding, nurturing..

‘Gardening’
Who is your god and what are you gardening?
With the coming of spring-
cleaning your house an underrated thing
Unclean it causes callous on the soul
Oozing with poisonous pride devours the whole
Who is your god and what are you gardening?

Where is the peace all who live on Earth seek?
Inherited by the meek
Will those in power wash clean the peoples feet?
Declare this land is sacred
Who are we?
To depredate the soil uproot the tree!
Where is the peace all who live on Earth seek?

A demo slice + the final chorus lyrics we’ll ring out together this Thursday night @spocmusic on stage 8pm 🔔

“THERE ARE NO BORDERS ON THE SOUL
IT IS A TRUTH WE ALL MUST HOLD
FOR DENIAL LEAVES A HUMAN HOLE
THE RIGHT OF ALL PEOPLE TO FIND HOME”

Last tickets above! pls share the message below & follow people tagged🕊

These clips from my phone weigh heavy on my heart travelling past the camp on Lesvos.

1. into town from the village I and many vulnerable & forgotten asylum seekers live, they, without access to essential food & medical services.

2. Driving past the camp entrance, a site of daily human rights violations & hostile humiliation, yet no media attention.

3. Sending up a prayer for the freedom of friends stuck on the island for up to 3 years, only allowed to leave the camp once a week, imprisoned for no crime.. If anyone here chose to seek safety in England, they are the very people the gov will send to Rwanda!

Hope to honour the people I’ve met & raise funds on the night to directly support their freedom journey.

Thank you for the invitation @annawestinmusic 🙏🏾

Demo @karmastudios w pal @joeharveywwhyte on shruti box♥️

His love is

Supreme.

John’s here singing about it, all my fav’s Sister Rosetta, Dylan, Patti & punk pioneers Death sung about it..as will I.

Friends, it’s a joy to share some🔔 good news 🔔the deep peace I carry in my heart despite all this chaos, is not due to personal virtue, but the life-changing love and freedom that comes with following Jesus. Opening my heart to my Maker is the best gift I’ve ever received🌹

If you’re looking for peace, ask & you’ll receive 🕊
[of course I’m happy to talk or pray anytime]

“In me you will have peace. In the world you will have trouble. But take heart; I have overcome the world.”

Shalom.
