Some nice recent press from @recordcratesunited, @rosyoverdrive, and @dustedinexile for MEASURE, POUR & MIXTAPE: MUSIC FOR COOKING, which Jennifer Kelly calls "a diverse and lovely collection [that] reclaims the kitchen for artists and thinkers."

"The good folks at Spinster have assembled a stunning roster of artists from all across the vast spectrum of folk and experimental music to celebrate and explore the connection between music and cooking. With the likes of @lou__turner, Michael Hurley, @magictuberstringband, and many others, this album is like a sonic cookbook inspired by well-worn recipes, the meditative process of food preparation and the communal experience of both cooking and eating with others." 🥣🍳⏲️🥗

We're thrilled to launch preorders of our forthcoming release, MEASURE, POUR & MIXTAPE: MUSIC FOR COOKING, featuring previously unreleased tracks by Michael Hurley, BELLS (@be__lls), Avey Tare of Animal Collective (@aaaveytttare), Magic Tuber String Band (@magictuberstringband), Lou Turner (@lou__turner), Sally Anne Morgan (@sally_inthe_garden) & many more.

For this tape compilation, we invited artists to consider the connection between food and sound, music and cooking. We envisioned an auditory cookbook of songs, poems, field recordings, and aural experiments, inspired by recipes, food preparation processes, dishes, and the experience of eating.

Together, the tracks—or ingredients, if you will—deepened and expanded our original vision, blending, stewing, and baking together in a hearty, warm, and inventive aural menu for the most nourishing of communal meals.

MEASURE, POUR & MIXTAPE will be out on limited edition cassette tape & digital formats on December 1. Read more on our website and listen to BELLS’ contribution on our Bandcamp. 🍅⏲️🧈🍵🥧🍿🍏

Endemic to the Andes and in the Amazon, the musician wren is said to have received its name exactly because of its elaborate singing ability.

There are a lot of myths around this bird, such as when it sings all the birds stop quiet to listen. It’s known to bring good luck which is one that has caused it to be hunted by humans and endangered.

Yet it’s birdsong and variations are so clear, bright and memorable.

Along with many of its other traits, I love songbirds for their melodic rhythms. I think birds are some of our oldest drummers on the earth. It is possible to hear many rudiments of melodic rhythms. In this example I construct the song in musical rhythm and other examples I’ll construct this in spatial mapping and field recording.
