Hey, I’m Burt Blackarach, and if you’re thinking about taking Be A DJ For A Day @beadjforaday I thought I’d introduce myself.

I started DJing when I was 14 years old. What began as a fascination with records, turntables, and hip-hop culture turned into a lifelong career in music. Over the years, I’ve toured the world, opened for icons like Prince, Jay-Z, Nas, produced for music gods like Aerosmith and Public Enemy, worked as a composer and music supervisor for award-winning film and television projects, and spent countless hours behind the decks.

But one of the things I love most is sharing DJ culture with people who have never touched a turntable before.

That's why I created Be A DJ For A Day.

In just one hour, I'll teach you the fundamentals of a turntable, introduce you to real vinyl records, show you how DJs think about music, and even teach you some basic scratching techniques. No experience is required. Whether you're a complete beginner, a music lover, celebrating a birthday, planning a date, visiting Los Angeles, or simply checking something off your bucket list, this experience is designed for you.

My goal isn't to turn you into a professional DJ in an hour. It's to give you a deeper appreciation for the art form and let you experience the magic of making music with your own hands.

I can't wait to meet you and share something that's been a huge part of my life since the 1980s.

See you behind the turntables. 🎧

Music is the closest thing we have to a time machine. Vinyl just makes the travel so much smoother. 🎧

I have to admit it. It's kind of dope.

Getting to incorporate my passion into what I do is such a "pinch me moment" -- every single day. But there is no way I can truly enjoy it unless I am sharing my passion with others.

I am a music supervisor, composer and producer but I have to carve out time each week to teach people the basics of DJing.

Without DJing, I would have never had the opportunity to start producing music for Public Enemy. Or sound engineer for The Temptations (that album won a Grammy). Or compose music for James Cameron. Or even become the music supervisor for Oscar-nominated and shortlisted projects.

Without DJing, I don't even think I would have had the opportunity to discover what I am capable of.

That's some powerful stuff.

Started DJing at 14 and never imagined it would lead to teaching FIFA World Cup fans from around the world how to scratch records in my studio. Honored to see @travelandleisure include @beadjforaday among Airbnb’s FIFA Experiences. Sometimes the side quests become the story. 🙏🏾⚽️🎶

Thank you so much @elizabetheverywhere aka DJ Rhode Trip. You are a natural! 🎧💿🎛

For me, it's always the Hip Hop section. Then the R+B section to find the records that are in our catalog at @salamanimusic that we somehow don't have in the #wallofpublishing
