POSTS STORIES REELS TAGGED

Before it was an industry, it was a movement. Before it was a career, it was our lives.

Bum Rush Productions was born out of friendship, a shared obsession with music, and a belief in a culture that was still finding its voice.

It all started when my best friend Chris Cooke introduced me to @djnumark (not pictured). Chris, Mark, Greg Fair, Obam, and I became the foundation of Bush Rush Productions.

We weren’t just throwing parties. We were introducing hip-hop to people who had never experienced it. Turning living rooms into dance floors, house parties into cultural exchanges, and records into lifelong memories.

This was Los Angeles in the ‘80s. We were young, fearless, and completely immersed in something bigger than ourselves. We didn’t know we were participating in history. We were just living it.

Eventually, our love of DJing evolved into music production, a creative path Mark and I have continued walking ever since.

Yes, we’ve lived through four decades since those days, but the music, the art form, and the culture have lived far beyond anything we could have imagined.

What started as a group of friends playing records became the soundtrack to our lives. And in some small way, we helped write a chapter of hip-hop’s story.

I’ve got a lot more photographs and memories to share. Some stories deserve to be told by the people who were there.

We didn’t just witness the culture. We helped carry it forward. 🎧

For me, it's always the Hip Hop section. Then the R+B section to find the records that are in our catalog at @salamanimusic that we somehow don't have in the #wallofpublishing

Kota is an 11 year-old Taiko drummer from Japan. I've been friends with his father for 30 years. This is my first time getting Kota behind the wheels of steel. Love this kid! 🙌🏾

🎧 Crate Digger Chronicles with Burt Blackarach.

I am always asked to tell the stories behind my 40 year plus collection of records. I have more than 30k pieces of vinyl - that's a lot of stories to share.

Styx is an American rock band that emerged from Chicago, blending progressive rock, hard rock, and soaring pop melodies. Their 1973 single “Lady,” written and sung by Dennis DeYoung, became the band’s first major hit and helped propel them from regional success to national recognition. Originally released on Styx II, the song was a slow-building success, eventually reaching No. 6 on the Billboard Hot 100 in 1975 and setting the stage for Styx’s huge commercial run later in the decade.

Day 5 of BE A DJ FOR A DAY - Summer Camp Edition🎧

You can teach a kid where the buttons are. The fun part is watching the moment they realize, “Wait…I can actually do this.” 🔥

From vinyl to digital, they’re not just learning to DJ—they’re learning to trust their ears. I am so siked!

Day by day, they’re getting it. 🎧🔥 Absolutely incredible kids.

It’s bigger than learning how to scratch or work the turntables. It’s about confidence, multitasking, creativity, music history and giving kids a chance to discover something they may love for the rest of their lives.
I love what I do.

Day 3 of BE A DJ FOR A DAY Summer Camp and these kids are getting it! 🙌🏽

From learning the turntables and cueing up records to scratching and finding their own style—it’s been incredible watching their confidence grow in just a few days.

No laptops. No shortcuts. We start with the foundation: two turntables and a mixer. 💿🎚️

Teaching the next generation of DJs—one record at a time.

DAY 2 OF 5! 🎧🔥

Who would’ve wanted THIS summer camp when they were a kid? 🙋🏽‍♂️🎧

We’re just getting started! BE A DJ FOR A DAY is taking over Elevate! Summer at Milken this week for the SOLD OUT DJ 101: Beats, Grooves & Turntables!

These young DJs are getting hands-on with real vinyl and turntables, learning the art of scratching, exploring the history and culture of DJing and Hip Hop—and, most importantly, getting behind the decks and making some noise. 🎶

Nothing better than watching kids discover the magic of DJing for the very first time.

2 days down. 3 to go. The next generation of DJs is coming… 🎧

There is just something about @beadjforaday and summer. It just hits so differently. The longer days, the slower pace -- everyone wants to be in "vacay mode", even if it's only mental vacation.
