February 7th was the grant day. Along with old friends, Make A Wish and IEA presented a check. We all talked about Rayas as we sat next to her. The memories proved how lovely of a rider and person Rayas was, along with the best touch of humor and passion for horses.

Rayas died on February 15th, 2026, 15 years young. I cannot put a number to how many times I saw, heard, or just thought of Rayas. Even to the most random things. The first week, Bilbo was banging upon his stall door. The same horse I once lunged, which Rayas had taught me how to do. Walking around and through the barn showed me all the times I had with Rayas. I cannot put a number to how many times I would cry, whether it was after the best lesson to the first step out of a car.

Rayas’s Celebration of Life was on May 9th. Over 150 people were there, recognizing and honoring Rayas for who she was and what a wonderful person she was. I spoke with my old Riverdale friends. I stood with Lea, Sophia R, and Luella, our arms and hands holding or crossed. None of us got through our speeches without sobbing. I had read from a loose leaf sheet of paper, acknowledging how much I loved Rayas and she loved me, as well as so many people and animals. I remembered our bond as sisters, even if we hadn’t known each other for our whole lives. Many people complimented my speech, which only brought me back to the time when Rayas looked over my essay and helped me revise it (we received full marks). Many people said I looked so much like Rayas. That is the best compliment.

Rayas has been a close friend of mine since I joined Riverdale’s IEA team in 2022. Before then, she was seen jumping around on crazy Cadbury with gorgeous equitation. After over a year of constantly texting about horses we’d ridden, and of course always wishing to have even a bit of her witchcraft, Rayas invited me over to Chicory. It was a Sunday, the day before President’s Day. Rayas and her mom picked me up at the train station. Rayas had told me we could make horse treats in the kitchen. I obviously didn’t understand, after asking where the kitchen was in the barn. We laughed about it through my entrancement of her lunging and riding of Clever. I borrowed her pajamas, she helped me groom Milky Way, watching as I rode. Rayas made me feel welcome every time I was there, as I stayed with her like Gorilla Glue.

At Riverdale, she asked me if I wanted her to coach me on Priscilla like Christine. At the Memorial Day camp out, she showed me how to play volleyball, and helped me make my own friends. In the summer, she joined jumping the Chicory fillers with Clever. We cheered for each other through riding refusals. I would sleepover with Rayas for sometimes a full week, where we’d jump Nami, ourselves, often piggybacking. We would hangout at the barn after camp as I watched her instantly connect with new Nikko. We stayed together for Dutchess County Fair. She showed me TikToks until a short night’s rest. Even in the early mornings of IEA show sleepovers, Rayas joked withy me as I’d sing about America.

I was always stunned by her artistry, notably making Nikko a giraffe. Throughout the “arguments” of what Nikko’s show name should be, from her mom’s insistence of HOT TO GO!, to Knock Your Socks Off, Rayas creatively landed on Take A Bow. Rayas never failed to connect with a horse, from few to many rides. Even in the darkest moments, Rayas either found light, or make it herself. Rayas is who I aspire to be: a hilarious and motivational person; a horsewoman with true magic; the girl with a soul full of compassion for animals and people. But most of all, she is always my best friend and sister.

unfortunately, my lease of mimi has finished. I will miss this unicorn SO MUCH, and I am so lucky and grateful to have had her in my life. She helped me progress as a rider so much including some of the things below

• first oxer
• first 2'
• first 2' course
• first 2' line
• first "best short stirrup rider" in a show
• first fwpha show my dad took me to?
• first lease pony to do IEA with
• first brick wall jump
• first long rein stuff
• first full lease for a year
• and much more

Day by day, I am learning more and more with Mimi. Definitely still have LOTS of things I need to work on but I’ve improved so much more from the start. So grateful for this pony:)

Today was also the last day of school for me so summer, here I come!!!

Homecoming Queen—Mimi AMAZED me at our first show today at Fairfield County Hunt Club 5/6/2022).

We got Reserve Champion for Short Stirrup Equitation, Champion for Short Stirrup Hunter, and Best Crossrail Rider!!

I’m so proud of Mimi (and myself but mostly Mimi) as she continues to stun me every day.

And so grateful for everyone who helped me out—my trainers (@equine_mv , @beckyy211 , @elainewithak and @riverdalestablesnyc ), Johnny, my family, and many others.
