About 9 years ago, I found myself in a community college at night, sketching out an idea for an app that felt like something the world actually needed. Kind of.

I’ve always tried to live at the intersection of what I’m good at, what people need, and what someone might pay for. “Ikigai” if you want to call it that.

One night I sat with a friend for a few hours helping him find a rehab that felt right. Nothing stuck. He has a million excuses. The next morning, I got a call from his roommate. He was gone.

It rocked me.

I kept thinking about how hard it is to navigate that world when you’re in it. How overwhelming it is to find the right place, at the exact moment it mattered most. Especially with substance abuse in the picture.

At the time, I started mapping out a kind of “swipe left / swipe right” concept for treatment centers. something simple, personal, human.

I didn’t build it then. I still haven’t 😬

Truth is, I wasn’t in a place to. I know now I can’t really help anyone if my own house isn’t in order. Today, I’m 5.5 years clean and counting. Still learning, still figuring it out. Trying to be useful where I can. If I’m being honest with how fast things are able to be built, it seems like it’s less important I build anything at all. For Anyone. Just being honest. I think the magic is in the building.

Lately, I’ve found myself coming back to that same place… building things that actually help the people around me. Immediately. My community. My team. The people in my orbit. I built speed tracker to slow cars down in my Neighborhood. That’s just for my neighborhood 😂

I didn’t have to launch a series A to build something that can help me today. Didn’t have to stand in a conference and beg for folks attention. Didn’t have to charge $500 a month to figure out 8 years later the world doesn’t need my Products. We’re watching this in real time with music venue booking software(s)… 💅🏻

Back in the early 2000s, Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets basketball had one of those teams that didn’t look like much on paper. They were small ACC school with some mild success in the sport. My family had moved to Georgia when I was 6 or 7. We adopted Georgia Tech because it was a lot closer than Georgia.

but anyways.. they kept showing up where they weren’t supposed to be. In the middle of it was Luke Schenscher. I’ll never forget him. A big, lanky, red-headed Center and impossible to ignore. Not your typical star, not built like the blue-blood programs, but tough, weirdly graceful, and relentless. We’re seeing some of these players in real time this year. They dont fit in. They dont even look like basketball players some of them. Let them sleep. The 2002-2003 Georgia Tech Yellow jackets weren’t supposed to make noise… and then suddenly they were deep in the mix, crashing the party, turning heads, and making people believe.

That’s a Cinderella story.

And that’s exactly what Colt Classic Presents feels like right now. I started this because I realized the majors were never going to save me, they could never offer me what I was worth, and ultimately they were just after the bricks I had laid down anyways. They want something they can’t have. The fact is that my bricks will only help them build a castle and later all I will be left with is some rubble.. are you building someone else’s castle? Are you turning yours into rubble?

Not the biggest budget. Not the obvious favorite. But showing up in rooms, earning respect the hard way, and slowly becoming something people can’t ignore. A little scrappy, a little different, and a lot more dangerous than anyone expected.

I’ve touched on this a few times but the show is tomorrow so I don’t think you’ll have to hear about it again after this (for a while) 😬😘

When I was getting loaded events like RECOVERY TAKEOVER never existed to me. I’m not sure I would have listened anyways, but I know that events like these were made for alcoholics and addicts and recovering humans like me, looking for a different type of event. There’s something powerful about mixing people who’ve lost hope with people who are finding it again.

If you’ve ever wanted a night out that feels good the next day, or you’re just curious what something different looks like, please come hang!

Friends / Nashville Buyers / Agents / Publicists. Listen up. 🆙 🤘🏻

My friends and I have built something really cool. I don’t know what other way to put it. We have over 5,000 sign ups in the area of dedicated fans. Somehow there are still a few tickets left for next Thursday so I thought I’d take an opportunity to re-explain what happened.

We created a viral marketing campaign around something my friend said to me - “Nashville Is A Comedy Town Now”. Well.. Because it is. Comedy is competing with music neck and neck each night.

So - March 5, (somewhere in Nashville - we’re not saying where) we’ll have comic from Kill Tony, HBO, Netflix, Hulu etc. It’s going to be a great show. We don’t tell anyone who the comic is, and we don’t tell them where the show is (until day before)

Agents / Managers / Publicists. I’m telling you. This is a great way to find new emerging talent if you’re looking to get into comedy or just want to switch it up. It’s a great outing for friends, and an excellent date night. If you’re in the industry, this one is on me.
