“What happens when you stop assuming…and start seeing?” That was the question at the heart of today’s Upper School Inclusive Leadership assembly with Mr. Racine during X-Period.

Mr. Racine opened the talk with a violin performance designed to challenge expectations and get students thinking about first impressions—and the stories our minds immediately create based on what we see and hear.

From there, students explored stereotypes, identity, belonging, and the assumptions we make about the people around us. Because leadership isn’t just about having a title. Great leaders see people, stay curious, question assumptions, and make room for others to belong. See. Question. Act. That’s inclusive leadership 💙💛

This morning, our Junior Kindergartners celebrated Hispanic Heritage Month through a special cultural activity! Students gathered in the Commons to hear from KCD kitchen team member Mari, as she shared her family traditions and brought sweet treats to try: arroz con leche and gata de canela. Mari also prepared a special surprise by decorating a section of the Commons for the JKers to enjoy! Students had the opportunity to learn, celebrate, and make memories together—including helping pull the string on a piñata. We are so grateful to Mari for sharing her time, traditions, and talents with our students!

Today’s Community Picnic, sponsored by our KCD Affinity Groups, was filled with great food, laughter, fellowship, and connection. From kids playing together to families sharing stories and trying delicious cultural cuisines from around our community, it was a wonderful reminder of what makes KCD so special.

A huge thank you to KCD parents Ka-Lin & Mehreen for all of the time, heart, and hard work they put into bringing this beautiful event together. And thank you to everyone who showed up, shared a dish, made a new connection, and helped make today so much fun! by @bearcatcommunity

Our Junior Kindergartners welcomed a very special guest today! Former KCD JK Assistant, Ms. Halle Nussbaum, stopped by to share the meaning and traditions of Rosh Hashanah with our students. 🍎🍯

They wrapped up their special visit with apples and honey—a cherished tradition symbolizing the hope for a sweet, joyful, and fruitful new year. 💙💛

We 💙💛 our Seniors! This morning, the entire JK-12 community gathered to celebrate the Class of 2026! Seniors were welcomed to a party in the quad, where they received festive blue and gold beaded necklaces from teachers and younger classmates. Together we enjoyed cookies, lemonade, music, bubbles, and a lot of fun. Moments like these are what Bearcat spirit is all about—thank you to everyone who made it happen!

This year’s Lower School Grandparents & Special Friends Program was a beautiful celebration of Ghanaian music, dance, and culture. Following the performance, students and their special guests explored our classrooms, visited the Lower School Art Show, made friendship bracelets, and engaged in a variety of other fun activities around campus.

Thank you to our incredible arts faculty who made this special day possible!

We were lucky to have parents and students stop by to celebrate Arabic American Heritage Month this morning! Students and faculty had the opportunity to enjoy treats and have a personalized name tag, written in Arabic, created for them. It was a meaningful way to honor language, heritage, and identity while learning from one another.

What a special day for our KCD 2nd graders! 💙💛 After a year of writing letters, our students finally met their @westendschool pen pals at the Ali Center! From exploring the museum to completing a scavenger hunt and sharing lunch, it was a day full of connection, learning, and joy. A powerful reminder of how meaningful relationships can grow—one letter at a time.
