Yesterday BEATsTABLE played on a screen in a real theater in Brooklyn. Bushwick Film Festival 🤯

I made this thing mostly alone in front of a computer for very long hours fitting it in around life, my business, music, and more. And yesterday there was a room full of people watching. WTF! Grateful

After the film there was a Q&A and tried to explain what our scene is to people who have no idea it even exists

With that said… this is just the start of it. More things planned in the near future. 1 more festival event tonight then I’m gonna take a nap

I'd never heard of @zarztheorigin. Then I saw him at Donut Lounge and the sound was unlike anything I'd heard. Chaos. Noisy. Funky. Rhythmic.

His energy on stage was incredible. Locked into his own world. Even the way he used the SP404 was different from everybody else.

Before the first song was over I knew I needed to cross paths with him somehow.

Fast forward to Digital Dust. I asked him for a set. He said yes. The rest is history.

"It shaped the way I see the world in every way. It taught me how to survive."

I didn't really know @nothing_neue. I knew of him, but I don't think we'd ever met or spoken. I was throwing the first Digital Dust with Jacuzzi Jefferson and he said get Nothing Neue. He asked. Neue said yes.

He has energy like no one else on stage. Turn the sound off and you'd still be watching. Dreads swinging, effects played like an instrument. He doesn't just nod his head. He is INTO it. And of course the beats were on point.

"There's nothing more radical and revolutionary than caring about the next person."

First time I saw @saywordstaz was at a Donut Lounge show. Big smile, huge fro. I was locked in before she even pressed play.

Then the first beat dropped. Soulful. Smooth but rough and hard. Head nod.

I didn't know her at all. A while later I was booking a show called Digital Dust and asked @beatsbyflora for a set. She couldn't make it, so she sent me a few names to ask instead. Staz was first on the list. I asked. She said yes immediately. Showed up EARLY.

Years later she's played my shows, I've played hers, and I consider her a friend. And she's in my film.

"I use music as a form of therapy and it helps heal me."

Before the software, before the gear — it started with hands on a table.

BEATsTABLE is my new short doc about the Brooklyn beat scene. It follows underground producers whose stories are deeper than the beats they make — it’s about healing, community, and creative survival.

The screening features 12 short documentaries — each made by a different filmmaker from this year’s BRIC Documentary Intensive cohort. It’s an amazing lineup of stories, and I’m honored to be one of them.

This is why I’ve been a ghost the last few months. From February through early May, I was fully locked in: planning, shooting, editing, color correcting, sound mixing, pivoting, and pushing to make the deadline. It drained me. It changed me. It was worth every second. The plan is to eventually make it a series… big thanks to Staz, Zarz, & Neue for their involvement 🙏🏽
