BEATsTABLE was almost called Beat Table.

Named after banging out beats on a table in junior high with a nod to NETFLIX's Chef's Table. Then I added the S and saw it differently. Beat , Stable.

That’s what music does for us. When I stopped making it, my life went to s**t. Everyone in this film comes from similar place.

What keeps you stable?

Thank you @bushwickfilmfest & @kweighbaye for having us, and everyone who came out to Williamsburg Cinemas.

Yesterday BEATsTABLE played on a screen in a real theater in Brooklyn. Bushwick Film Festival 🤯

I made this thing mostly alone in front of a computer for very long hours fitting it in around life, my business, music, and more. And yesterday there was a room full of people watching. WTF! Grateful

Big thanks to the peeps it couldnt have been done without @zarztheorigin @nothing_neue @saywordstaz

@jaevizuals for his help

@felyfabiola.creates for her support and patience

After the film there was a Q&A and tried to explain what our scene is to people who have no idea it even exists

With that said… this is just the start of it. More things planned in the near future. 1 more festival event tonight then I’m gonna take a nap

And before you ask… yes. Once the festival run is done it will find itself online somewhere, likely by next spring.

I'd never heard of @zarztheorigin. Then I saw him at Donut Lounge and the sound was unlike anything I'd heard. Chaos. Noisy. Funky. Rhythmic.

His energy on stage was incredible. Locked into his own world. Even the way he used the SP404 was different from everybody else.

Before the first song was over I knew I needed to cross paths with him somehow.

Fast forward to Digital Dust. I asked him for a set. He said yes. The rest is history.

"It shaped the way I see the world in every way. It taught me how to survive."

Every producer's first beat was made on a table. Mine was the lunchroom in junior high.

Beat table. Beat stable. Same word, both true. @zarztheorigin @saywordstaz @nothing_neue told us why over their own beats.

BEATsTABLE. Saturday October 10, noon, @williamsburgcinemas. Part of @bushwickfilmfest. Nine days.

I didn't really know @nothing_neue. I knew of him, but I don't think we'd ever met or spoken. I was throwing the first Digital Dust with Jacuzzi Jefferson and he said get Nothing Neue. He asked. Neue said yes.

He has energy like no one else on stage. Turn the sound off and you'd still be watching. Dreads swinging, effects played like an instrument. He doesn't just nod his head. He is INTO it. And of course the beats were on point.

"There's nothing more radical and revolutionary than caring about the next person."

📣 Come to Bushwick next month!
BEATsTABLE hits the big screen at the 19th #BushwickFilmFest, Oct 7–11.

Every producer’s first beat was made on a table with no equipment. BEATsTABLE follows Brooklyn producers who still use the artform the same way, to stay standing through breakups, family, and loss. Tix @ www.bushwickfilmfestival.com @cryp_uno @beatstabledoc

First time I saw @saywordstaz was at a Donut Lounge show. Big smile, huge fro. I was locked in before she even pressed play.

Then the first beat dropped. Soulful. Smooth but rough and hard. Head nod.

I didn't know her at all. A while later I was booking a show called Digital Dust and asked @beatsbyflora for a set. She couldn't make it, so she sent me a few names to ask instead. Staz was first on the list. I asked. She said yes immediately. Showed up EARLY.

Years later she's played my shows, I've played hers, and I consider her a friend. And she's in my film.

"I use music as a form of therapy and it helps heal me."
