The other day I thought about whether I am an artist. Then I thought about the importance of intimacy when reading…if one wants to receive understanding. There is a necessity: making eye contact with the text and listening to it. All that to say, I’m thinking about reading intimately as an arts practice. @kindredstorieshtx @thereadingroom.htx by @beau.willie

I are thrilled to announce that the @galvestonartistresidency and I have received a @teigerfoundation curatorial research and development grant.

We are among 50 curators and 33 institutions across the US to receive a grant through the Foundation’s annual Call for Proposals, supporting innovative curatorial projects in contemporary art that further new research, broaden opportunities for diversity and inclusion, and embrace more sustainable practices. The grants fund a full range of curatorial activities, from conducting research and mounting exhibitions to hosting touring shows and realizing three years of programming.

Congrats to all of the 2024 #TeigerFoundation grantees! by @beau.willie

Last year for my sister’s birthday I got her a bomb vegan cake from @barebakery. This year it was brunch at @mobetterbrewshtx. If I had mo’ I’d give her mo’. Happy birthday. Thank you for your endless support and for your always available spare room. Love you. by @beau.willie

Such a sweet moment at @gcccomics with Byron and Leandra. We chopped it up about the bronze and modern eras of black comics and how we look forward @robertpruitt dropping one in the nearest of futures. by @beau.willie

In this lifetime I have been fortunate to have a father and numerous father figures. Mr. Terry Reid was one of the latter. He was also my first garden mentor. I met him in the early 2000s at @projectrowhouses when he managed its thriving vegetable garden. Mr. Terry was an intellectual purest, always seeking knowledge, especially if it pertained to health and wellness. He was also a verbose, the kind of person who strung thoughts together in ways that ate up your time. I would always say, you “need an exit strategy” when talking to Mr. Terry. Utmost gratitude to god for putting this man in my life for nearly two decades. I welcome him as an ancestor. by @beau.willie
