🥺 It's so hard to see them suffering by themselves, miserable, lonely.

How could I NOT rescue them?

Ignore the bed- you know how reorganizing goes! You have to make a mess before you can make it look nice.

My most recent psychological horror obsession: Johnny, by @hollymaycormier

This is one of my guilty pleasure genres- multiple POVs where low-key everyone keeps making selfish decisions and then people end up dying. Similar comps would be Rich, Young Widows and One of Us Is Dead, by Jeneva Rose.

Read book 1, Memphis, first. I'll do my best not to spoil it!

Johnny just got out of prison. While he was away, his wife became a famous singer. Why was Johnny in prison for the first place? Oh, for trying to kill her.

Johnny gets a new girlfriend, and this girlfriend has ties. Big ties, to big people. Johnny wants in. He wants power. He wants... his son back?

Johnny is on a quest to ruin his ex's life, get Michael back, and become a member of a biker gang. When he has to choose one of these goals over the other, though, what will he do?

This is a book of terrible people (except Ryan. Ryan can do no wrong. And obviously Michael. Get the kid into therapy.) However, it's impossible to look away. I need book 3 immediately to see how all of this resolves.

I'm kinda embarrassed to admit it, but...

My vocabulary isn't where I want it. My books aren't selling as much as I had been sure they would. Most people's right nostrils are slightly larger, but mine is more noticeably so. My poses are kinda cringe.

For real- how do y'all pose?

I got greedy with the ARCs and may not hit the deadlines.

Most of my unit is deploying. I'm not.

I'm not a first responder anymore. I take people from one hospital to another.

And yet- would I choose anything differently?

Sometimes we're embarrassed by things we shouldn't be.

I enjoy learning new words.

I've still sold a decent amount of books, and am getting my first royalty check soon. The people who do read my book are rating it highly on GoodReads, and are liking it. That was the goal, wasn't it?

All of my NPA practice has helped me save... how many lives? And by training others to do NPAs, how many more?

Yeah, the posing is cringy, but at least you're getting the honest me.

I will read these ARCs soon as I can, and will review them fairly. I will make my little posts on Insta and promote the authors in the best way I can.

The deployment already had too many sergeants going, and they were asking for someone to stay back. The unit had a surplus of sergeants, but my baby only has one mother.

Sometimes we are embarrassed over something we shouldn't be. Sometimes they're just the results of making the right decision.

Barista Garrett MacGowan is about to spill the beans- literally and figuratively!

People keep dying (or do their best to try) at his coffee shop. They've got to be connected, but how? Sheriff Buck interviews the witnesses one by one, seeing if he can pull out the truth from a bunch of jumbled stories. The witnesses know only what they THINK they saw and heard.

But why would a simple barista hesitate to tell his side of the story?

Or is he not hesitating enough?

What I'd tell someone plotting their first murder-
I mean writing. Writing their first murder:

People are liars, and sometimes someone will lie about something unrelated to the case. That lie can help cover up for the murderer unknowingly.

There's many different reactions to finding a corpse, and almost none of them are "wrong." So many times, people feel relief. Sometimes, they are scared about what this means to them long term.

People can be doing LITERALLY ANYTHING when they croak. They can be driving to work when the poison kicks in, so everyone thinks the cause of death is the crash. They can be stabbed while swimming.

In real life, 75% (number I vibe-checked against my personal experience- take with a grain of salt) of people die pooping on the toilet, and then fall and get wedged between the bathtub and toilet. If you want accuracy, try that.

These are the books I'm currently OBSESSED with. They live rent-free in my mind. They are flawless. Amazing. I recommend them to everyone I meet. I give my soldiers lawful orders to read them.

Double yep. I'm tired of people saying that indie authors have no standards. My dear readers, indies are where you find the good, not-mass-produced stuff. It's where you find authors who aren't afraid to speak their mind.

Regrets and Attonement, day 11 of the #htgdwriterchallenge2026 by @r.s.author

Be the judge! Do these criminals get their comeuppance or do I need to torture them more?

Also, MAJOR spoilers.

Some of these people have done some pretty bad things- but I've sided them with the good guys?! And the "villain" has a pretty understandable motivation.
