What a spectacular honor to be named @reesesbookclub July pick. Truly a dream come true. Thank you, thank you, thank you. 🩷 by @beckdoreystein

It’s impossible to say which version would be the most excited and proud about publishing a book about soccer-playing sisters and then — WHAT! — having it selected as July’s @reesesbookclub pick, but it’s safe to say every Beck of the past culminated in the bonkers jubilation in this first photo, which was the very first top-secret selfie I took for “the club” after hearing the news. Scroll to the end to see my favorite self portrait and, more importantly, thank you, thank you, thank you. 🩷🩷🩷 by @beckdoreystein

Mia and Cricket have always been close. The gifted daughters of a young single mother, they couldn’t be more different. Responsible, academic Mia assumes the position of caregiver far too young, while star athlete Cricket seems born for soccer stardom. But the cost of achieving athletic greatness comes at a price.

As Mia and Cricket grow up, they grapple with the legacy of their mother’s secret past while navigating their own precarious future. Can Mia allow herself to fall in love at the risk of repeating a terrible history? And who is Cricket outside of her ambition?

The two sisters have always shared the same dream. But now they must make an impossible choice... by @beckdoreystein

This is ridiculous and outrageous and laughable but also my favorite thing that’s ever happened. I’ve never been so proud to place dead last — thanks for the delusional boost, @phillyinquirer !!! 🩷🥳🩷 #narb by @beckdoreystein

We live for this…
In recent weeks we’ve started hosting authors on the front porch of the Bookshop, and I think we’ve stumbled upon something incredibly special…and of course it also makes complete sense. Porches have always been places where people gather, slow down, share stories, and make connections. Just “be” for a moment in this crazy world. Yesterday, our porch became exactly that.

Thank you to Beck Dorey-Stein for such a thoughtful, warm, and engaging conversation. And thank you to everyone who joined us, asked wonderful questions, shared your own stories, and helped create a morning that felt genuinely magical.

Moments like these remind us that bookstores are about so much more than books. They’re about bringing people together.

We can’t wait to welcome you back to the porch soon!❤️📚

📚Spectacular Things (2025)

Two sisters, Mia and Cricket Lowe, grow up in a small Maine town, bound by love, family, and a shared dream of soccer greatness. As they navigate ambition, sacrifice, grief, and the legacy of their mother’s past, they’re forced to confront how much they’re willing to give up for each other—and for their own futures. A sweeping novel about sisterhood, love, and the impossible choices we make in pursuit of our dreams.

📚Rock the Boat (2021)

When Kate Campbell’s carefully planned life in Manhattan unravels, she returns to her seaside hometown of Sea Point, where she reconnects with childhood friends Miles Hoffman and Ziggy Miller. As old friendships, buried secrets, and a developer’s plans to transform the town collide over one unforgettable summer, they must decide what—and who—truly matters. A warm, witty novel about friendship, home, and finding your way back to yourself.

📚From the Corner of the Oval (2018)

A memoir chronicling Beck Dorey-Stein’s unexpected journey from juggling five part-time jobs to becoming a White House stenographer during the Barack Obama administration. Traveling aboard Air Force One and witnessing history firsthand, she offers an engaging behind-the-scenes look at the White House while sharing her own story of career, love, friendship, and discovering her voice. by @beckdoreystein

Never mess with a bulldog, especially if that bulldog is Izzy Deane. This girl. THIS GIRL. Loyal, intuitive, stubborn, brave, sassy and unapologetically determined to hump your leg and snatch your lunch although not necessarily in that order. She snuggled me when I was sad, stood guard when I was sick, and looked at me one queasy morning in October 2021 like, hi hello obviously you’re pregnant, you ignorant whore. She cleaned our kitchen floor better than any vacuum and had a more sensitive nose than her hound brother, Billy. She’s the reason I met Ryan and their bond was how I knew Ryan would be such a good dad, even if his devotion to her did, in fact, make me more jealous than I care to admit. Whenever someone asked what breed of dog she was, Ryan was quick to answer: “50% English bulldog, 100% angel.” And now it’s more true than we want — our broad-shouldered bully with wings — but she gave it her all and we were the lucky ones to feed her cantaloupe and watch her wade in the shallows on the hottest of days. A gorgeous miniature surfing hippo with a cinnamon roll for a tail. A diva. A stoic. A tug-of-war champion. A trooper. A brutally devoted sister and daughter. Thank you for being so good to the boys, Izzy Deane. Thank you for never letting me forget that I am the mistress and you are the wife. My favorite person’s favorite princess…please say hi to Bodhi and the gang and yes, of course, absolutely go ham on the buffet. by @beckdoreystein
