September 17, 2026.
My last cancer treatment. And the opening of Design Vancouver Festival, with PechaKucha at the Queen Elizabeth Theatre. All on the same day. The past 18 months have been… I still don’t have the words.

I don’t know what the future holds. I don’t know whether the cancer will come back. But this Thursday, I get to mark the end of treatment with 2,000 people coming together for Opening Night. That means more to me than I can say.

Join me to say goodbye to this chapter, tell cancer “please don’t come back,” and kick off the festival together. @designvanfest @pechakuchavancouver

Why begin Design Vancouver Festival with craft?⁠

Because design does not begin with the finished product, building, graphic, or meal. It begins with attention, repetition, decision, and the willingness to keep working until an idea finds its form.⁠

This year’s Opening Night is centred around For the Love of Craft, a theme exploring the care, process, skill, and devotion it takes to make work that matters.⁠

Rather than presenting a broad portfolio, each speaker will focus on one project, idea, or aspect of their practice. Eraser stamps.
One of the side effects of cancer treatment has been nerve and skin damage in my hands and feet. I haven’t made jewellery in over 16 months.
Learning to pivot in life. 🫩
I’m making stamps out of erasers using Finn’s drawings. Still making. by @beckichan
