River Solstice is more than a day of music and art—it’s an invitation to slow down, observe, and deepen our relationship with the Los Angeles River through hands-on community programming.

Throughout the festival, guests can join a series of free, all-ages experiences led by local educators, artists, and environmental stewards:

🎨 Bed & Breakfast (@bedandbreakfast_la) – All-Ages Creative Programming
From 2:00–5:00 PM, B&B, the creative practice of curator and educator Jacqueline Falcone and Remainders Creative Reuse (@remainders_creative_reuse), will host a drop-in creative activation centered on making, learning, and collective exploration. Rooted in hospitality and accessible arts education, the program invites participants of all ages to create together using reclaimed materials while imagining new ways of connecting to each other and the river.

🌿 Herb Club LA (@herbclub_la) – Guided Herb Walk
Beginning at 5:30 PM, Herb Club LA will lead a walk exploring the native plants that have grown along the river for centuries, sharing their identification, traditional uses, and ecological significance. Participation is first come, first served.

🦅 LA Birding Club (@labirdingclub) – Summer Solstice Bird Walk
Also beginning at 5:30 PM, LA Birding Club will guide an intentional walk celebrating the remarkable diversity of birdlife along the LA River. Whether you’re an experienced birder or simply curious, all are welcome. Participation is first come, first served, and a limited number of binoculars will be available for use.

At River Solstice, we celebrate the river not only as a landscape, but as a living classroom, gathering place, and source of inspiration.

A Letter From Our Founder

I’ve taken some time to reflect on the thirteen years of Bed & Breakfast (B&B), from our first show in my bedroom in Shorecrest, Miami, to our current residency with Art in the Park in Los Angeles. For over a decade, B&B has been my pride and biggest source of joy, which is why it’s a bit difficult for me to share with you that I’ll be taking a break from the project for the foreseeable future.

Some of you may know that I have been pursuing a degree in Early Childhood and Elementary Education. This decision was made with the hopes of someday building a robust Early Childhood and Youth program within B&B, and ultimately to open a preschool co-existing with exhibitions, public programming, and more. Recently, it’s become clear to me that in order to see this ambition come to fruition, I need to focus on completing my degree. It has become increasingly challenging to do the sort of rigorous community programming I aspire B&B to have while simultaneously studying and working full-time. I’m resolute that my place in all this mess is not only with artists, but also with our children. This is the work I love and at this point in our history it feels more important than ever to see my schooling through.

SAVE THE DATE: June 28th!

To conclude Rachel Bridges’ B&B exhibition, ‘The Silence,’ Jazlynn Eugenio will perform a dance titled ‘Archiving our Ancestors,’ an ode to loved ones who have moved on from the physical world. Pastor is inspired by Philippine movement and healing practices, and hopes this dance can inspire us to hear the stories of our loved ones and learn about one another’s histories.

pinaypages is a community for creativity, wellness, and storytelling. Created by Jazlynn Eugenio Pastor, it incorporates what she has learned from Philippine dance, culture, and healing arts into her services. Through pinaypages, she offers opportunities for us to embrace art making and self-care in our everyday lives.

On June 28th, we’ll be spending the day picnicking for the last day of ‘The Silence’ and celebrating our year-long residency at Art in the Park! We’ve had an amazing year connecting with the community at AITP and would love to spend some time with you to kick off the summer.

If you’d like to picnic, please bring a blanket and something to eat for yourself or to share. Bonus points if you bring a recipe special to your family!

The day will culminate with a dance performance by Jazlynn Eugenio Pastor titled ‘Archiving our Ancestors.’

Opening May 10th, 2-5PM at @artintheparkla !

A second generation Filipina American, Bridges was largely unaware of her Chinese ancestry until recently, though in retrospect there were clues, such as the use of Chinese spices in her mother’s traditional Philippine meals. In The Silence, @_rachelbridges uses family photos, public archives, and other source materials to fill in the gaps of her own family history, much of it erased through conflict in the region. This exhibition explores both Bridges’ Filipino and new-found Chinese heritage through her primary medium of painting.

We are so excited that @treepeople_org has come on board for Bat Day this Sunday! Stop by and bring home your very own live oak tree (while supplies last) courtesy of Tree People!

If you’d like to volunteer with Tree People, join them in practicing a morning of stewardship in a town called Green Valley, located in the Angeles National Forest. They will be working towards helping this community recover and reforest their land from the loss of trees due to an invasive beetle called the Gold Spotted Oak Borer. Oak volunteer events in March will be running on Fridays from 8:45am-12:45pm and in April on Fridays and Saturdays from 8:45am-12:45pm. There are other volunteer opportunities with Tree People at Castaic Lake, San Francisquito Canyon, or in urban areas, so visit their volunteer page to see what’s available! taken in Arroyo seco / Hermon park by @bedandbreakfast_la
