this time last week @rickyalbeck + co. put out a new song from their forthcoming ‘Expensive Music’ LP 💰 it’s been doing the rounds on the radio and for that we are grateful x

“Famous Friends” is about lotsa things but mostly I think it’s about appreciating and loving the people who surround you ~ life is who you share it with! Ricky tried to explain it to me in Athens one night but I think we were drunk, sorry Ricky

Ricky says ~~

“The song has a kind of triple meaning. I have a lot of friends who play music who want to be famous, and I want that for them. I want them to be happy.

I also put myself in that admittedly embarrassing position, in an industry which I’m quite cynical of. There’s a lot that doesn’t make sense in the music industry, and maybe some of the lines in the song don’t make sense…“driving down an american highway” line doesn’t really make sense, I just thought it was funny cuz it sounds like you’re transported to a Nashville pop country song for a second or something.

Oh and the 3rd meaning, I guess it would just be really fun to be friends with people like Harry Styles & Madonna etc. They must have some good parties.”

A new song called Famous Friends is all yours today!! This is defs one o’ my faves from the record. It’s single cover is a sick painting that @westhepants did of me (I’m pretty sure) in a swimming pool that’s also a pool table.

Jeez Im so proud of all these songs and really love that you get to hear another one today. Hope you dig it. Do let me know.

💧 blue divers ‘hiddenness songs’ came out yesterday on a CD-only pressing thru Why Don’t You Believe Me? Records.

you can get it from @frankswildyearsrecordbar @repressedrecords and all good record stores in yr neighbourhood!

sometimes things are hidden for a while, then they peek their head out, maybe they go back in and come back again later. all good things take time. Thirroul wasn’t built in a day.

Leccy says —

“There are very few recordings of the live band in existence, and we have had many different versions - instrumental, with singing, large ensembles and small. Because we barely play outside our home town, all these ideas and new music goes unheard by anyone that isn’t part of the handful of people who come to our gigs. It is a bit hiddenness. This is a glimpse into one version of the band, documented for anyone to hear.”

🍊 ok so the new @rickyalbeck LP “Expensive Music” is gonna come in both black + ORANGE vinyl, you get to choose your own colour if you get on the pre-orders quick 🪄

ALSO maybe just a note here and a shout-out to @programrecords ~ did u know this record (and all b.s releases these days) are pressed w 100% recycled vinyl AND recycled cardstock and hell, even recycled polybags for the plastic protective sleeves. it’s a thing you can do and it’s worth the extra couple bucks! kudos @greenmusicau for the hard work they do 🌱

so if you can help out Ricky and order yourself one of these as an early Xmas present go and do it! or if you can’t, then come to one of the shows in November, the man is working hard! he’ll be everywhere. links in our bio.

we asked @rickyalbeck to share a couple words about his forthcoming record, Expensive Music 💸💸

“The songs on the album were written between 2022 & 2025. Me and the Belair Line Band (Tom, Harry, Jackson, Alex, Edo) went into @twinearth_recording studio in Adelaide to record the live beds and then @robertmuinos recorded me and @ella.ion vocals at the Rat Shack in Melbourne.

We did everything live to tape at Twin Earth and wanted to do it there because it’s right by the beach and he’s got all this awesome gear. That recording experience, and the one in Melbourne, was a transformative experience!!! I feel a great bond now with everyone that worked on the record.

I think you get that when it’s sound that’s created live in the room, it’s a certain magic. Anyways it’s definitely my favourite thing I’ve done and I love everyone that’s a part of it.”

Magnificent, epic set from 2021 by Dusty and the mighty Dag.

Back in ye olden days, we called this ‘dolewave’, but Dag are just so much more. Sharp, observational lyrics with tunes that stick in yer craw, they remain one of the great hidden treasures of Australian underground music in the 21st century.

Fantastic album from 2012 - their sole album! - by this coastal Victorian band who featured Brendan from Eddy Current on vocals, along with members of the Twerps, Hedge Burners, etc. in tow.

A-game slop-pop which plays like a sonic bridging gap between all these bands.

welcoming @rickyalbeck and the belair line band! 🎱

Ricky likes to play pool at the Crown & Anchor (RIP) in Adelaide. Ricky likes to drink beers and smoke ciggies. He’s a bit worried about his health but usually it’s OK, he cares more about spending time with those he loves.

Ricky and the band like to play loud rock and roll that’s a little bit country. He’s a damn fine songwriter and one of the kindest souls out there on the road, if that counts for anything, which we hope it does!
