Repost from @bbcspringwatch - a clip from the film that features on Springwatch last night. Birdwatching brings me so much joy, peace, and renewed energy to protect our planet as a climate justice advocate 🌱🌳

On this day of filming, there was so much drama going on! A peregrine and buzzard being mobbed, new couples finding love, nest building and more. There’s so much you can notice when you take a moment.

Thank you to all the new people who have joined here after last night, and the wonderful messages and comments. I’m so glad it resonates with so many people! 🦜🐦🐦‍⬛🩷

📚 In my book ‘Planet Protectors’ a non-fiction aimed at 9-12 year olds, I share the stories of young people around the world taking action for our planet, proving that anyone, anywhere, can be a planet protector.

I also want to take a moment to shout out some cool people working on inclusion outdoors : @bgh_uk @soultrailwellbeing @blackgirlenvironmentalist @birdgirluk @flocktogether.world @outsidewithlira @jtalksnature (so many more!!)

I CAN’T WAIT for this book to be out into the world!
I signed with Harper Collins Children’s to write: Planet Protectors. This was inspired by the incredible power of young people to create change and, by the possibilities for the future. I wanted to include real world examples from some activists I have met on my journey. 🩷

📘This is part of the ‘Read On’ programme for schools!
📚 Now available online for pre-orders on major booksellers including Harper Collins UK and bookshop.org. Link in bio 🔗
📆: Published 17th April!

I hope that the children learn that they are not alone in feeling fear and anxiety about climate our climate and biodiversity crisis, and that there is an entire movement taking acting through: courts, the streets, pressuring leaders, organising in their local communities, and more. 🌍

Just like trees survive with their underground fungal networks, sharing information, resources and the nutrients, we are also stronger together. The first chapter is titled ‘The oceans are rising, but so are we.’ 🌊

📖This book is to educate about climate and biodiversity, alongside the inequality of it, and how youth are seeking justice worldwide.

Thank you to these planet protectors who feature in the book: @melatiwijsen & @isabel.wijsen , @beau.bkabtsa @lola.malini @anjali.rm @ny3leti from @chokedup_uk , @nallelicobo , @vanessanakate1 , @helenagualinga and @nallelicobo

Thank you to @pahwakomal for the gorgeous illustration!

Not so typical day in my life! Thought I’d bring you along. Was in London 3x in the last week which I haven’t done in aaaages. Luckily trains were all super smooth, and the most important thing, got to do some face to face stuff AND be in my own bed by the end of the day! Yay! by @beeinfluenceuk

Hi hello! I emerge from the other side to you in the mountains of Aburi, Ghana! 🇬🇭

How do founders, biz owners and influencers create less harm?

In 2020, when I refreshed @beeinfluenceuk my influencer marketing agency to expand into talent management, I began representing my first climate activist. That turned into pitching to and winning work with an environmental org and eventually, led to a wave of intros to people working across climate and nature who I now proudly represent! I’ve somewhat become known as a ‘climate momager’ (when did I transition from sister to mum status.. pls 😭)

Before that, I originally came from a background of managing YouTubers in beauty/lifestyle, family vloggers who worked with huge brands owned by seriously grim companies. Back then, I didn’t think about the deals we did - what harm these brands are doing to the planet and people.

Lots of life happened - political awakenings. reckonings. hard conversations. ego checks. money worries. ethics evolving. unlearning. being hypocritical. getting things wrong.

what does ‘sucess’ or ‘making it’ actually mean when facism is rife, genocide continues and systemic oppression continues to affect all of us every day?

Sometimes the balance is hard, but it’s harder to justify looking the other way tbh.

Though our purses might be a little lighter, myself and my clients (alongside many other anti-oppressive biz owners/creators) are trying to prove that it is possible to reduce harm, and still make a living.

If you’re in the creative space; a founder, biz owner, content creator, marketing - this isn’t about perfection. It’s about paying attention, asking questions, doing the search and turning down things when it doesn’t sit right.

I wanna know how others navigate this work? by @beeinfluenceuk

I’m guessing most people won’t define success as scaling down from a well-known influencer marketing agency with a team, office and awards to now being a freelancer/independent.

But here’s why it is success to me!

1. I sleep better at night. My mental health is no longer in ruins worrying about paying team salaries, client wins, and client losses.

2. Complete autonomy over my schedule. I’m no longer dictated by going to a permanent office, managing a team, or constant catch ups. I can change up my schedules whenever I want.

3. Which means so much more time for activities, like volunteering at my local Chinese community centre 💛 and running besean 🫶🏼 and joining protests 🇵🇸

4. I only manage a handful of creators and take on way less clients and projects than I used to. I’m way more picky about who I work with now! I get to choose to work with clients who share similar ethics and morals as me and challenge me to be a better person.

5. I listened to that small voice in my head telling me something wasn’t right and did a brave thing instead of continuing down a path I knew no longer served me. I’m so proud of myself for that!

6. I no longer compare myself (as much) to other agency owners / founders because I realised everyone has their own struggles, whether they tell you or not (this was me included, I kept it hidden for too long because of the shame, the shameeee!)

7. When I started listening to my intuition and decided what makes me happy on my own terms, not what society expected, I became more true to my goals, myself, and my happiness.

Years ago I went down the path of creating an influencer marketing agency - because I cared too much about what others thought rather than what makes me happy. It’s not really what I ever wanted and I never aligned with those business founders telling people to hustle and wake up at 4am (could never be me!) Defining success by what others thought of me over my own needs was a huge trap. I’ll never go back! by @beeinfluenceuk

Never done one of these before but find capturing image content way easier than a video?! Hats off to my influencer pals who credit reel after reel!!

Do you get the dread of posting on social media too? I overthink massively and I’m trying to remember no one really cares!

Tryin to post more in July! Let me know what’s interesting to you…my job, activism, food, a bit of everything! by @beeinfluenceuk
