How long can you go on feeling guilty for something you did in the past? How far will you go to redeem yourself? Is redemption possible without suffering?

We faced these questions as we discussed ‘The Kite Runner’ by Khaled Hosseini, an epic tale set against the backdrop of war-torn Afghanistan.

There were some dissenting voices also. Which made the discussion even livelier.

The Magnificent 7….presented by The Magnificent 7.

In a departure from the usual book-of-the-month format, we did a session of 7 of the greatest plays ever, each presented in 15 minutes by a member of the Museo Book Club. 7x7. I stepped back for this one and let my fellow members do their thing.

The plays discussed were:-

‘The Importance of Being Earnest’ by Oscar Wilde
‘King Lear’ by William Shakespeare
‘Adhe Adhure’ by Mohan Rakesh
‘A Streetcar Named Desire’ by Tennessee Williams
‘Pygmalion’ by George Bernard Shaw
‘Madhavi’ by Bhisham Sahni
‘Waiting for Godot’ by Samuel Beckett

All presented superbly to a packed audience. I can truly claim that a good time was had by all.

BBNews Book Review | Just an Old Sea Dog and Other Poems

Some books tell stories. Some books take you on a journey. Just an Old Sea Dog and Other Poems by Beetashok Chatterjee does both. ⚓

This beautiful collection brings together poems about the sea, sailors, ships, storms, journeys, memories, love, loss and life. Through simple yet vivid words, the poet creates a world where you can almost hear the waves, feel the wind and imagine life on a ship.

From the loneliness of the ocean to the warmth of human memories, these poems explore many emotions and experiences. It is a thoughtful collection that reminds us that life, much like the sea, is full of calm moments, storms and unexpected journeys.

✨ A book for poetry lovers, sea lovers and anyone who enjoys stories that stay with you.

Sunday 30 Aug. A lively Book Club discussion on ‘James’, the multi-award masterpiece by Percival Everett, a magical retelling of Mark Twain’s classic ‘The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn’. A picaresque novel, ‘James’ is satirically written with wit and pathos. It is a cutting commentary on white racial prejudice set during the days of slavery in America.

Was delighted to be invited to judge the Creative Writing Segment at the ‘24th Kusum Verma Memorial National Inter-school English Festival held at Springdales School, Dhaula Kuan on August 20. There were a lot of schools participating, and the creative writing skills of the students were impressive. A pity I had to select only 3.
Organized by the Old Springdalian Association, it was a well managed event. I enjoyed every minute of it. Thanks, OSA & Supriya! taken in Springdales School by @beetashok

I was especially excited to unbox this one because it’s exactly the kind of book I’d love to carry with me on a long ride or a little getaway. 📖✨

The kind of book you can open anywhere, read a small poem or two, and simply enjoy the words while watching the world go by. 🌿🚆💭

Sometimes, you don’t need a book that demands all your attention—you just need one that quietly keeps you company while you enjoy the journey. 🤍

Is letter writing a lost art? What role does silence play in communication? Can an email in no way replace a written letter? Is it possible to get to know a person well entirely through letters or emails?
Such were the questions we pondered over at our Book-of-the-Month discussion of The Correspondent by Virginia Evans, an epistolary novel about love, regret and grief.

Had an enlightening conversation with author and TEDx speaker Smita Das Jain on Saturday about her latest book ‘Jagannath—stories of faith and devotion’. The storyteller, researcher and devotee in Smita engaged the audience with stories of Lord Jagannath, His temple of miracles and the Rath Yatra.
