Instead of asking why someone isn’t doing what they were previously taught, maybe we could ask what’s getting in the way.

Knowledge certainly matters, but so do the conditions needed to put it into practice. by @behavior.ish

Respectfully… a 90-minute PD is not an implementation plan. 😂

We can’t hand teachers and support staff a new strategy, say “any questions?” and then disappear into the sunset.

If we actually want a practice to change, we need to think beyond the training. 🧠 by @behavior.ish

🛑 Knowing what to do ≠ being able to consistently do it.

This shows up all the time in schools. We often respond to implementation problems with more information: another training, another handout, another reminder.

But knowledge is only one piece of implementation.

Teachers also need practice, modeling, coaching, feedback, resources, time, and systems that support the thing we’re asking them to do.

So before we ask, “Why aren’t they doing what they know?”

Try asking:

“What’s getting in the way of implementation?”

That question can change the entire conversation. 🙋‍♀️ by @behavior.ish

Before we target the behavior, zoom out. 🔎

Look at the environment, the systems, and the adults supporting the student.

Because even the best intervention won’t work if the surrounding conditions aren’t set up to support it. by @behavior.ish
