🌒✨ What an evening! Huge thanks to everyone who joined @young_greens_ni on Cavehill for the solar eclipse hike - this was one of our most oversubscribed events ever, and it was so worth it for everyone who made it up the hill.

We watched the light dip across Belfast and the Lagan Valley as the Moon covered over 90% of the Sun - magical, even through a little cloud cover! ☁️🌗💚

A massive thank you to:
🙌 Everyone who came along, members and supporters alike, for your patience and enthusiasm
🦺 Our brilliant marshals who stepped up to keep everyone safe on the hill
🌟 @ellie.byrne.green.party and the whole Young Greens team who organised and ran the event on the day

In a huge honour, today I have been elected as an EC member for @fyeg!

My immeasurable thanks to Young Greens across Europe for placing their trust in me; I'm excited to get started, and my door is always open to those who want to talk.

Special shout outs to Cinta and the FYEG office for making the by-election process so clear, and @carlemilf for being a lovely person to contest against.

the cat's out of the bag! i am running for the free spot on @fyeg's Executive Committee! ✨ if you're a Young Green in Europe, your organisation probably has a vote - and voting opens in a few days' time! ✅

my full candidacy is available on FYEG's voting platform, but to say a little about why i'm running:

When I was 16 years old, I took on my first role in the Green movement. At 18, I went to my first FYEG event. I’m now 29, and I can honestly say in all my years as an activist, nowhere has inspired and motivated me quite like FYEG.

I hadn’t originally planned to stand in this mandate, but the experience of our GA in beautiful Bolzano, and the encouragement of Young Greens in my own MO and others, convinced me to run in this EC by-election.

As I write this, my home city of Belfast is reeling after a week of racist pogroms which targeted minorities and immigrants. Ugandans and Ukrainians have been burned out of their homes, and people of colour, particularly from Africa and West Asia, fear for their lives.

It’s easy to feel dejected, isolated, and powerless in these conditions. It is also vital to reject them,
to stand for justice, solidarity, and equality - and to organise for a better world.

I have been honoured in the past to collaborate continent-wide, working on resolutions on minority languages, finding common experience with other post-conflict societies, and working with so many to take a stand for international justice and human rights. I would be honoured once again if you could support me in standing for FYEG’s EC.

Inspiring, tiring, illuminating, rejuvenating - seeing friends and comrades from across the continent at @fyeg's General Assembly was an honour and memory I'll forever cherish - thank you @younggreensirl for letting me represent us 💚✨

So grateful to hear Maureen speak at today's vigil for Yves Sakila, who was murdered this week in Dublin. I first heard her speak last week at @greenpartyni's conference, and everything she says is such a valuable insight, on racial justice and more. #JusticeForYves by @belf_ash
