Mahalos to @belikeliquid and Hungry Heroes Hawaii in my #UnsungHeroesOfLahaina series, while recognizing the incredible community-wide support. @hhhmaui amazing work, from serving up to 2000 daily meals at the peak to now 300-600, has been a crucial part of Maui’s recovery. With over $400k in food, 10k lbs of Maui produce twice weekly, thanks to @hawaiicommunityfoundation , @khalsaaidusa , Local Harvest, and kitchens at @anuheachapel and @huamomonafarms , they’ve made a huge impact. Special thanks to partner restaurants @papisohana , @aarootsmaui , @niulife_kitchen , and the 750 dedicated volunteers. I’d like to also mahalo the countless others across Hawaii who drove in food/ supplies, sent food/supplies by boats, and showed that true aloha spirit. There are places in this world unlike others. I might call them sanctuaries or portals, doorways to other times and dimensions. After each arrival at Xiu Teahouse, I leave different. As if I have been teleported out of the hustle of being human and into a gentle strength I had forgotten.

I almost wrote “cozy” when trying to describe it. But that word feels too femme for my writing, which already walks that line lol. Yet, it’s that coziness when one is fully content by the fire, in a blanket, a place that resonates deeper than typical comforts we pursue.
It feels like being with family. Like coming home.

Perhaps my ancestors found sanctuary in the same way. Sitting by the fire. Gathering to pour tea. Collecting the logs. Boiling the water. Cutting the leaves.

In this process, I sense my lineage invited in. Not only mine, but the lineage of the teahouse, the lineage of the tea and pourer, the lineage of those I sit with. All of us arriving through different doors, meeting in the same room.

I no longer see this place as only a sanctuary. It is also a doorway. A journey through time where it somehow stands still. What moves instead are layers of information, experiences remembered in my cells, my blood, my lineage.

Xiu.

A beautiful word that speaks to refinement, elegance, rest, and presence. This teahouse is created by a master tea sommelier with deep training in the art of tea.
The intention is felt.

If you enter willing to meet slowness without distraction, presence without agenda, you may hear the quiet call of the ancestors inviting you to sit, drink some tea, and remember who you truly are.

Mahalo. Suksma. Xiè xiè nǐ. Deep bow.

Home is in your heart. Life is a work of art.
If you would; Read that again. Feel it.

That was one of the inquiries for Heaven on Earth event, as we close out 2025 and step into 2026, the Year of the Fire Horse. Action. Change. Movement. And yes… that’s life right now. Listening. Taking action. Making change.

Thank you to everyone who came to support the concert and farewell gathering hosted by dear friend Shazi, a power house of a human. It was beautiful. Powerful. A cleansing. A closing. So honored to have uncle Kimokeo offer prayers for the land and new year, wow! It was a special moment, a prayer. A shift on the land I’ve had the honor to steward.

It was also a moment to say goodbye to friends, to supporters, to the land, and to commitments that are ending… or changing shape.

Mostly, I just want to say thank you. Your presence mattered. Uncle Kimokeo’s prayer opened the sky. And Shazi, Greg and Shaheen held the fire with reverence and heart. Malcom, Kian, Eli and Sofia created a concert of the senses. Solara made magic. Jess zoomed in with her cosmic guidance. It was beautiful. I carry Maui with me.

May heaven on earth be within you and where you step. A hui hou 🙏🤙

What is a True Nature wedding?

Maybe it is when two souls truly know themselves, their light and their shadow, their desires and their devotion, and choose to dance in the mystery together.

It is when love becomes creation. When two beings meet to offer, to nurture beauty and truth, to honor family and land, and to grow something real.

It was my honor to witness the union of Cher and Dakotah, two beloved souls who have found, and discovered each other. Who chose to commit and recommit, to weave their love into a new beginning.

A love rooted in the land, watered by spirit, tended with play, patience, and reverence.
A love that lives, and keeps becoming, in its true nature.

I traveled from Maui to Colorado, then drove north to Wyoming with my friend Levi who is from this land. We stayed with Cher’s parents at their home, where her mother welcomed us with warmth and care. Two days later, we arrived in Ten Sleep, Wyoming, where Cher and Dakotah had prepared cabins tucked deep in the folds of the Bighorn Mountains for their guests.

The gathering was unlike any other, rooted in presence, beauty, and wholeness, true connection. Both families radiated love, care, and authenticity. The ceremony took place on Cher’s ancestral land, followed by a celebration at the town park that connects to her family’s property.

Everything felt perfectly imperfect, an effortless blend of country and celestial, practical and poetic. Nearly everyone wore natural clothing crafted by Cher’s company, True Nature Attire, handmade pieces sewn in Bali. Cher’s wedding dress was her grandmother’s gown, made from natural fabric and reimagined.

The day unfolded without pretense, without striving for some idealized image of perfection. It was alive, real, and naturally magical and grounded in community and guided by something divine.

An honor and privilege for me to take part and contribute, while being with family and friends for life.

My prayer for Cher and Dakotah is that there love continues to be a well spring of aloha that serves their own hearts, union, calling and the beautiful community they serve.

Like a sip of tea whose flavor awakens the senses and stirs my soul, im held back by questions.. is it the water, the temperature, the flavor, or the leaf? Or is it the 2000 year old root, the earth that nourished it, the hands that tended to it?

Or is it the pot, the potter, the artist, the village, the clay that shaped the vessels form?

Or is it the beauty in your eyes when we share that first sip? Or the voice of my heart, calling me home, to trust, to fall, to drink, to love, to surrender to something ancient and infinite, knowing that in your presence, every moment is steeped in meaning.

These questions command answers, yet the answers arrive like riddles..layered, elusive, pulling me deeper into wonder. Time stirs the cup, but never in the freshness of first pour.. What was will never be again, and what’s new will never taste as new once did. Instead, everything folds in upon itself, blending past and present into something neither old nor entirely new, only ever becoming.
The flavor shifts with each sip, the tea revealing itself only as I am able to receive it, and yet.. infused with the whispers of soil, the hands that shaped it, the fire that transformed it, the love that poured it forth.

This is a Yixing teapot crafted from Ben Shan Lü Ni, a rare green clay sourced from Huanglong Mountain in the Yixing region of China. Yixing’s pottery tradition dates back to the Ming Dynasty, where master artisans perfected the art of unglazed, porous clay teapots. This pot was handcrafted by Wang Chunyan using the traditional slab building technique, ensuring a seamless, organic form that embodies centuries of craftsmanship and tea culture.

Naim Ferguson was on the front lines of the Lahaina Maui wildfire relief efforts over the last year. He witnessed the huge rallying call from the community to support one another during a tragic time. Forever changed by this experience, he unpacks the guiding principles he has distilled around leadership and grassroots organizing. Naim believes in the power of community building, and how we can become more sovereign through cooperative efforts to create a more sustainable future. We discuss the importance of getting clear on our own boundaries, how to navigate doubts from “the challenger”, and being of service to the greater good as a change agent.

Hawaiian canoe racing is a traditional and culturally significant sport in Hawaii, involving teams paddling outrigger canoes in competitive regattas. These races highlight the skill, endurance, and teamwork of the paddlers as they navigate ocean waters, often battling waves and currents. The sport celebrates Hawaii’s rich maritime heritage and fosters a strong sense of community and aloha spirit. We are currently in the sprint season, state championships coming up in August, and then we start the challenging distance season. It is an honor and privilege to take part in this amazing sport. Reflecting on the S-Turns Relief Hub: A Tribute 🌊✊

The Lahaina Wildfire stands etched in the collective memory of Maui. It was a time of swift action and unwavering solidarity among our community members.

The roads barricaded, communication fragmented, yet our brothers and sisters rose to the occasion.

Amidst the chaos, information trickled in through fragmented channels: sporadic calls, texts, and social media messages asking for help. The true extent of the crisis on the West side remained elusive—water, food, internet, power, and phone connectivity all severed.

In the face of adversity, the Peahi Hui and others equipped with Jetskis became beacons of hope. Initially focused on securing drinking water, their efforts swiftly expanded to encompass vital necessities like food, fuel, diapers, and cooking stoves. In the days that followed, the community's heart beat as one, sleeves rolled up, determined to deliver aid to those in need.

These photographs taken exactly 8 months ago, capture the beginnings of the S-Turns Community Relief Hub—a testament to selflessness and resilience. What began as a makeshift point for unloading watercraft, funded by individuals dipping into their own pockets to pay for the supply, evolved into a lifeline for the West side ohana where we have been bringing supplies and produce every Wednesday and Saturday ever since and until the hub closed.

We bow in reverence to the humble warriors who anchored this relief effort, showing up with unwavering dedication and giving from the depths of their hearts.

Today, as we reminisce, let us remember the outpouring of aloha we all experienced and allow it to nourish our ongoing endeavors to support those in need. Mahalo Ke Akua, Mahalo Maui!
