Tis the season of the bat 🦇..

Painted wooly bats have now been added to my collection of handmade paper bats.

Kerivoula picta are some of the most over poached bats in the world due to their vibrant colours.. they are native to South east Asia.
These guys are made from mostly paper ,some wool and painted paper ..
If you are going to buy bats for your oddities collection make sure it’s a faux bat. There are some really amazing replicas out there as well as some amazing bat art..

On a side note .. no nice photos at moment. Bench is covered in work prep for @odditiesandcuriositiesexpo so I’m just sharing a little of behind the scenes madness 🦇🖤🧡😅

Australian green tree frog 🐸

Made from paper, scissors, glue, wire, paint and a lot of pondering. Made one and wasn’t happy so went back in and added some small details to capture the magic of these frogs.
Some may say they don’t have spots but on researching them it does appear that juveniles do. Anyhow I love spots and I hope you do too🐸

Ps: green is like red ,really hard to capture in its true form.

Something new for the “nothing new” crew😉
Striped pyjama squid 🦑.
Sepioloidea lineolata lives buried in sand on the sea floor of Indo pacific oceans of Australia. They like to eat fish, shrimp and crustaceans
This one is paper so feeding required.
New work coming with me to @odditiesandcuriositiesexpo in Melbourne..

She’s so extra..🫣..I love her💚🖤

Inspired by black hellebores this giant fabric flower has had a glow up.

Long story short I was inspired to have a go at fabric flowers from some other paper flower artists ..Thank you @intheflowermood and @littlepaperflowerwarrior for the encouragement.

Watched a couple of YouTube tutorials and it was off to the fabric store.
Made from 4 layers of fabric, petals are glued and hand stitched to florist wire, wooden beads and sparkles for stamens, battery operated lights, florist wire, styrofoam ball for centre and a lot of 🤔🤬😅😮‍💨
Why fabric and not paper you may wonder. Well I need to take these on the road with me and my roadie (aka husband) is practical not delicate and paper would just get wrecked. I’m hoping these will be more robust going in and out on car trips and market setups. Iykyk 😬.
Fingers crossed my engineering and planning works🤞🤞

Lady bug or lady beetle🐞..

what do you call them?

I wasn’t going to post this but life lately is on repeat. Currently working my way through a pile of paper lady beetles..
the question is why would I do this?
Art is personal and yes you can buy many versions of these lovely ladies pre made but are they as magical as one of these?🐞🫶💫. Handmade through many different steps just sharing a few along the way shots to remind myself more than anything😆

Delicate creatures and botanical wonders, captured forever in paper.
@bellapaperflora creates extraordinary handmade paper insects, plants and animals – intricate works that blur the line between art, nature and curiosity.
Beautifully detailed. Wonderfully unusual. Impossible not to love.

Mouselings 🐭🌿 from the forest..

Sorry for the absence but these little forest friends have kept me busy . They wanted to be displayed in hand painted frames to show them off. They each come with their own unique personalities and will be looking for new forests to call home.
They are handmade from paper, a little faux fur a lot of love and attention, some mossy bits, paint and a few other things I can’t remember..
They can be displayed in different ways , either on their wooden easel , hung on the wall and have a magnet attached to the back incase you want to put them on your fridge..
Anyhow the forest is calling and who knows what else I will find.. 🐭🌿☺️

A new forest friend for my hand painted frame. Both experiments but they seem to work together. Perhaps a happy accident.

She has no name as of yet but she will hang on your wall or perhaps sit on her easel on a lovely shelf somewhere warm and she also has a magnet on the back of the frame..
New ideas always take time to grow and morph and change so I wonder what I do next..

She made of paper, faux fur ,mossy bits and has a handful of paper ghost pipes she’s just picked in the forest.

Dynastes Hercules or just Hercules beetle..

Oh how I tried to give up but you wouldn’t let me. You tested me but I pushed on and here we are Hercules , finished but maybe not the final version.
Made from crepe paper, wool fibres cause I love his fluffy details hiding under his hard exterior, wire and acrylic paint.
Swear words were muttered and I came close to throwing him in the bin but here we are a starting point of something I hope to build on..
