Celebrating the launch of NZ Design Week 2027 last night at Lexus.

This year’s theme is Restore and Reimagine. It challenges us to consider how design can create more value from the resources and knowledge we already have.

New Zealand has traditionally relied on primary industries and tourism for export growth, and design represents another significant economic opportunity. Our creativity can travel globally creating commercial opportunities without relying on natural resources.

Congratulations to Jen Jones and the New Zealand Design Week team for building a platform that showcases our creative talent and contributes to economic growth.

Thanks also to Lexus New Zealand for hosting last night’s launch and committing to another three years of partnership.

With nine days of events, a two-day conference and an impressive international speaker lineup, 2027 is shaping up to be a fantastic programme.

The department store is not dead, it has been reborn.

The new Faradays store in Auckland, located on the first floor of the restored Milne & Choyce building at 131 Queen Street, is a social destination and a space to escape the everyday.

With more than 220 brands, fine art, dining and product discovery across three levels and almost 3,000 square metres, Faradays brings retail and social interaction together in a space designed for people to spend time, explore and connect.

Great to catch up with Dr Dani Chesson over coffee in Melbourne today. Our conversation covered PhDs, AI, books, organisational change and a few other topics that probably deserved more than just one coffee.

Dani has recently published Unstuckifyed, her new book based on 12 years of research and work with organisations. It explores a familiar problem: teams are exhausted, the same problems keep resurfacing, decisions are made but not always followed through, and yet the pressure to deliver continues to increase. Dani calls this being “Stuckifyed” and this book offers a way forward.

At a recent Marketing Association session call the Trust Stack, TRA presented research on trust in Australia and New Zealand, followed by a panel discussion with leaders from Trade Me, Auckland Transport , and New Zealand Rugby. Rather than asking AI what I might have looked like in the 1980s here is the real thing.

This is me with Mum and Dad on the front lawn of our family home. Dad has always loved photography, so growing up we were fortunate to have plenty of moments like this captured.

That is what makes old photos valuable. They are not perfect reconstructions of the past, they are the past.

If you’re like me, we spend so much time thinking about how to allocate time and budget but perhaps energy is the more important resource?

Understanding what gives us energy and what takes it away. When I genuinely care about something the energy comes so naturally. Bringing together people who share that passion or compilent it and the effect compounds. Things that previously felt difficult suddenly feel possible.
