The OTTOsonics Festival 2026 is just round the corner!

Der DODEKAOTTO ist eine mobile und begehbare Konstruktion in Form eines Dodekaeders, in dem Kompositionen im Ambisonics Format abgespielt werden können. Die Konstruktion wurde am Tangible Music Lab mit @ben_wesch entwickelt.

The DODEKAOTTO is a mobile, walk-in structure in the shape of a dodecahedron, in which compositions can be played in the Ambisonics format. The structure was developed at the Tangible Music Lab with @ben_wesch

14. 8. SUMMER LAB 2026 – ZAHAJOVACÍ KONCERT

Po třech dnech společné stavby, kalibrace a instalace otevíráme dveře první veřejné prezentaci našeho nově postaveného 16kanálového systému OTTOsonics.

Večer propojí pět umělců a umělkyň, kteří pracují s prostorovým zvukem z různých perspektiv. Prostřednictvím živých vystoupení a kompozic představí možnosti systému jako imerzivního poslechového prostředí.

14.08. SUMMER LAB 2026 – ERÖFFNUNGSKONZERT

Nach drei Tagen gemeinsamen Aufbaus, der Kalibrierung und Einrichtung öffnen wir die Türen für die erste öffentliche Präsentation unseres neu gebauten 16-Kanal-OTTOsonics-Systems.

Der Abend bringt fünf Künstler*innen zusammen, die sich dem räumlichen Klang aus unterschiedlichen Perspektiven nähern. Mit Live-Performances und Kompositionen erkunden sie das System als immersive Hörumgebung.

Workshopy prvního týdne jsou tady!
V prvním týdnu Summer Lab 2026 se společně ponoříme do prostorového zvuku hned ze tří různých perspektiv:

11.-13.8. Workshop stavby zvukového systému s Manuem Mitterhuberem – společná stavba a kalibrace imerzivního reproduktorového systému.

14.8. Zahájovácí koncert

15.8. Úvod do Spatial Audio s Benem Weschem – praktický vstup do Ambisonics, prostorové kompozice a práce se zvukem v prostoru.

16.8. Naladění se na okolní prostředí s Idou Hiršenfelder (beepblip) – zvukové procházky, hluboký poslech a objevování krajiny jako tvůrčího partnera.

Die Workshops der ersten Woche sind da!
In der ersten Woche des Summer Lab 2026 tauchen wir gemeinsam aus drei unterschiedlichen Perspektiven in die Welt des räumlichen Klangs ein:

11.-13.08. Soundsystem-Assembly-Workshop mit Manu Mitterhuber – gemeinsamer Aufbau und Kalibrierung eines immersiven Lautsprechersystems.

14.08. Eröffnungskonzert

15.08. Einführung in Spatial Audio mit Ben Wesch – ein praktischer Einstieg in Ambisonics, räumliche Komposition und das Arbeiten mit Klang im Raum.

16.08. Die Umgebung hörend erkunden mit Ida Hiršenfelder (beepblip) – Soundwalks, intensives Zuhören und das Entdecken der Landschaft als kreative Partnerin.

Am Sonntag 19.7. um 13 Uhr wird im evangelischen Kloster #Schwanberg die Klanginstallation „Anklang, Geviert“ des Münchner Künstlers Ben Wesch eröffnet. Seine räumliche Komposition lässt Fragmente von Gebeten im Kreuzgang erklingen und verbindet Vergangenheit und Gegenwart auf sinnliche Weise. @ben_wesch arbeitet am Tangible Music Lab der Kunstuniversität Linz und beschäftigt sich mit räumlicher Klangsynthese sowie „Spatial Audio“-Systemen. Seine Arbeiten waren schon bei der @arselectronica in Linz. #ausstellungleihen taken in Evangelisches Kloster Schwanberg by @ben_wesch

Next week from May 5-7 2026 we are hosting a workshop with Miller Puckette on hacking Pure Data for the ESP32 microcontroller. This will allow real-time interactive sound synthesis on this affordable embedded platform.

During the workshop we plan a hackathon for advanced developers with the aim of improving the performance and extend the functionality of the ESPD platform. A second group of participants will develop examples based on a smart speaker, mostly with a focus on untethered musical instruments with built-in interactive sound synthesis.

Impressions from our latest Spatial A/V workshop at @ustp_hochschule

Together with students from our department and European partner universities in Setubal @estsetubal, Waszaw @pjait_nema and Leuven-Limburg @ucleuvenlimburg, we developed audiovisual narratives across space, time and interaction, to be presented during @lucid_dreams_ustp Festival in May 2026.

Thanks a lot to @ottosonics and @tamlablinz for providing the multichannel infrastructure and construction!

Mentor Spotlight: Ben Wesch / Tamlab

We’re happy to welcome Ben Wesch as one of the mentors at Liquid Summer Lab. With a background spanning interaction design, instrument building, and experimental music, Ben’s work moves fluidly between traditional musicianship and advanced spatial audio systems.

At the lab, Ben will lead a Spatial Synthesis Workshop using Pure Data alongside custom audio and visual tools developed at the Tamlab as part of his Master’s in Postdigital Lutherie. Participants will set up a digital environment for multi-speaker configurations using lotto – a tool co-created with Manu Mitterhuber for precise loudspeaker localisation.

Through hands-on experimentation, Ben will introduce spatial modulation techniques, trajectory generation, and workflows that participants can take into their own projects.

LIQUID SUMMER LAB – 3D Spatial Sound Workshop & Symposium

We invite you to a week-long laboratory for artistic creation and sonic reflection, set in the sculpted sandstone landscapes of Saxon Switzerland – a region known for its deep forests, towering rock formations, and sense of quiet timelessness.

At the Liquid Summer Lab we will explore the expressive and technical possibilities of 3D spatial sound beyond the stereo field – through collective experimentation, discussion, and hands-on composition. Come and join us!

Invited lecturers: Manu Mitterhuber, Jakob Gille, Ben Wesch.

The Lab is open to artists, students, and researchers from all backgrounds.
No prior experience needed – just curiosity and openness to sonic exploration.
