I always think of November as cranberry season. I love cranberry sauce, of course, but I love cranberries even more. I’m always trying to come up with new ways to enjoy them, and this is my first of three cranberry recipes I’ll be sharing here and on my Substack “Meanwhile,”. My Cranberry-Jarritos Tart layers my favorite odd cranberry jam over a thin cheesecake filling and a toasty graham cracker crust. It’s a great option for a Thanksgiving dessert or for the end of any hearty cold-weather meal where you want to finish with something bright and acidic. Head to the link in bio for the recipe and to read all about it! by @benbmims
This week’s recipe for my Substack “Meanwhile,” is one of my new favorite fall desserts, the “Kerry” Apple Cake. It’s got lots of chunky apples held together with just a little batter and scented delicately with ground cloves. Head to the link in bio to read about it and get the recipe. I hope you make it and enjoy! by @benbmims
If you know me, you know I love fruitcake (niche, I know), and one of the best is Jamaican/Caribbean black cake. I wanted to share a little about the fruits and alcohols that form the foundation of the cake so that you can make your own next year (yes, the fruit needs a full year to soak!) Head to my link in bio to read all about it! by @benbmims
Hi everyone! Hell hath frozen over, and I’ve decided to start a Substack (very ahead of the curve, I know). It’s called “Meanwhile,” and it’s all about the context, history, and tips and techniques you learn while making a recipe. Think about all the things you learn while making a dish with someone that you can’t get in an abbreviated, written recipe. I’ll share recipes, of course, but also all the extra information I find fascinating about the what, why, and how we cook. Head to my link in bio to subscribe and follow along, and I look forward to seeing you there. by @benbmims

2025, but it’s just a journal of Marshall being a melancholy sad boy until we got Quincy, and they fell in love 😍 by @benbmims
Last week was the most perfect night in L.A. Five of the best bakers in L.A.—Sasha Piligian, Catalina Flores, Erika Chan, Clemence DeLutz, and Jon Melendez—and I made L.A.-themed gingerbread houses and sold gingerbread cookie boxes to raise money for @lafamilyhousing at @dannydsmudshop , the most perfect place I know in the city. Guests came in to peruse the houses and sip some @twhollisterco vermouth hot toddies, admiring all the hard work the bakers put into making these masterpieces. In L.A., we have to make our own holiday magic because the weather doesn’t do it for us, and this was the best way I could think of to do that. We raised over $2,300 for LA Family Housing, and I want to thank everyone who bought a cookie boxes to get there! Thank you to all the wonderful bakers who participated, @ivnatx for a killer flyer/poster, and @_emilygularte for documenting the night with her perfect photos. And the biggest thanks to Danny & @peyton.perron for allowing me to take over their shop for this event. Can’t wait for next year’s party and happy holidays everyone! by @benbmims
