Bend Fire & Rescue has canceled its annual Open House scheduled for Saturday, Oct. 17, at the North Fire Station following yesterday’s tragic shooting at Silver Rail Elementary School.

This was intended to be a day for families to come together, learn and connect with our firefighters and partner agencies. In light of the tremendous loss our community is experiencing, we do not believe it is appropriate to move forward with the event.

Our focus remains with the students, families, educators and community members affected by this tragedy. We are grateful for the community’s understanding as we navigate these difficult days together.

Information about future Bend Fire & Rescue community events will be shared at a later date.

SWIFT WATER. The last few days Academy 826 spent hours learning operations level skills involving water rescues. As well know, this town we call home has many amazing water features that we recreate in. With that, there’s added chances of something going wrong. In that worst case situation, we need all of our members to be ready to respond with the confidence and efficiency needed for a successful and safe mission. Great job recruits and thank you Cadre! #bendfirefighters #local227 #bendoregon taken in Deschutes River, Bend, Oregon by @bendfirerescue

Hi, Oregon! Since 2020 we've seen a steady increase in the number of fires related to rechargeable batteries across the state. That's what we are focused on for Fire Prevention Month!

We partnered with our friend Buster from @bendfirerescue to help share some rechargeable battery safety tips.

When charging things like your cell phone or laptop, make sure devices are on a hard, flat surface like a desk, table, or counter, never on beds, couches, or pillows. Make sure to unplug them when they reach 100%.

Outdoor debris burning is open for the season in the rural areas surrounding Bend that are served by Bend Fire & Rescue and Deschutes Rural Fire Protection District #2.

Debris burning is never allowed inside Bend city limits under City Code.
Even in the rural district, high fire danger means it’s critical to call before you burn every single time.

Weather, wind, and air‑quality conditions can change quickly, and burning may be shut down at any time for safety.

🔗Stay vigilant, stay fire‑safe, and check the latest regulations and daily burn status at the link in our bio! by @bendfirerescue
