SWIFT WATER. The last few days Academy 826 spent hours learning operations level skills involving water rescues. As well know, this town we call home has many amazing water features that we recreate in. With that, there’s added chances of something going wrong. In that worst case situation, we need all of our members to be ready to respond with the confidence and efficiency needed for a successful and safe mission. Great job recruits and thank you Cadre! #bendfirefighters #local227 #bendoregon

Hi, Oregon! Since 2020 we've seen a steady increase in the number of fires related to rechargeable batteries across the state. That's what we are focused on for Fire Prevention Month!

We partnered with our friend Buster from @bendfirerescue to help share some rechargeable battery safety tips.

When charging things like your cell phone or laptop, make sure devices are on a hard, flat surface like a desk, table, or counter, never on beds, couches, or pillows. Make sure to unplug them when they reach 100%.

V E N T. Day 1 of vertical ventilation starts today. We crawl before we walk. Walk before we run. The basics of the operation. How to hold the saw for max efficiency and safety. How to position our bodies. Depth of the bar into the roof. Tomorrow, we put it together further. Stay tuned. #bend #bendfire #bendoregon #verticalvent

SEARCH. Today and tomorrow our recruits are going through the first block of search training. In the event of a fire, we at Bend Fire have a mindset of Expect Victims. While this is a relatively widely accepted mindset across the industry, we prioritize searching the structure before an ‘All clear’ is called. This is done in tandem or even, in times, before an attack line has found the fire. Day Two tomorrow! #bend #bendfirefighters #bendoregon

Week 4. This week starts off our Academy 826 with FORCE ENTRY. Another core skill in our toolbox to make entry into a building. Here our recruit is working on entry to a residential door. Most entry doors to our houses are inward swinging (door opens into the home). We attack the door frame and its opening appliances (lock hardware) not the hinges. Our goal is to have this done within seconds. #bend #bendfirefighters #forceentry

This week our 10 recruit firefighter/paramedics of Academy 826 began their official firefighting training. The previous two weeks have been filled with HR/admin getting to know the dept/classroom portions. Now the fun begins. We started the week with hose academy. Understanding how Bend Fire deploys hose, the hose/nozzle combinations we use and how to work as a team to get the nozzle to the fire. Today, is Day 2 of Ladder Academy. The recruits will be working with 24’ and 28’ single person ladder operations all day. The ability to properly and efficiently place a ladder is at the core of our firefighting capabilities! Look for a weekly recap video coming soon! #bendfirefighters #bendoregon #bend
