This has to be the most challenging and demanding project I’ve shot to date. Over the course of a year, we shot single-camera across seven different countries, revisiting many of them multiple times, with around 75 shoot days in total—moving between intimate home visits with the players and documenting the Freestyle Chess tournament tour as a whole. All the while I was still actively shooting commercials, which made for some pretty wild stretches—wrapping a commercial one day, jumping on a flight to Europe the next for two weeks, landing and immediately going into production. It was an enormous undertaking, and I’m really proud of what we made. So much went into bringing this project to life, and I’m incredibly grateful to the solid team of people who made it possible. Excited to finally share it with everyone. Documentaries are truly labors of love. It takes a small yet mighty team to make them happen, often working 14–16 hour days, completely locked in, focused, present, and ready for every moment. Playing in AMC theaters October 11th and 14th. A few moments from a short doc “Luigi” that premiered at @sundanceorg 2026 and is now streaming online @rollingstone directed by @lizamandelup When Luigi Mangione is charged with murder, he becomes the subject of fevered obsession. Through letters, fantasies, and conspiracies, strangers turn Luigi into a cultural sensation and a canvas for their rage, desire, and misplaced hope.  Liza and I set out to make something intimate - An experience that feels less like “watching” and more like spending time with the people inside it. We wanted the audience to feel like they were in the room with our subjects, sharing their space, and really sensing their presence as they read these letters.
