Love for the dawgz. (I took none of these photos) by @bennettslavsky
This is my life’s work. I’ve been writing professionally for magazines and newspapers since I was a teenager. But as time waned on I found myself growing disenchanted with the dissolution of print publications, and at times uninterested in things I was writing or reading in mainstream outdoor media. So, along with my soul brother @mathiasgruber_, who is a gifted photographer and writer, we created @thenunatak, an annual outdoor journal featuring stories of the human experience. No trip reports, gear reviews, sponsored content, or any other soulless material. Just stories, only in print and totally ad-free. In the first few months that @thenunatak has been in circulation the feedback we’ve received fills my heart and validates the vision. Readers are brought to both laughter and tears by the words that occupy these pages, which was our intent. We want to move you. I am proud of what we have created. I am proud of Mathias for accompanying me on this journey. And I am proud of our incredible contributing writers and photographers who brought this thing to life. If you haven’t already, please go follow and subscribe to @thenunatak! The second issue is underway… #stayloose by @bennettslavsky

It’s not what you do, it’s how you do it, and we did it in impeccable style. by @bennettslavsky
My Soul Brother. Photo number one was taking a year and a day ago on the summit of Longs Peak after topping out Yellow Wall on the Diamond. Up until that point in my life, that was the most physically and mentally taxing day I’d ever had—a truly sublime moment that I’ve thinly veiled behind a tough face. Photo number two was taken a few months later, post-op in a hospital in Invercargill, New Zealand. Mat had just gotten his heel screwed back together and my ankle was still all sorts of mangled from a different accident on a different continent. It isn’t always good, but at least it’s interesting. From the top of the world to the bottom, baby. @mat.gruber #stayloose by @bennettslavsky
What I think is a hopeful song, Hallelujah by Leonard Coen, performed by Benny’s Bluegrass. Disclaimer: I have a moderate amount of business playing the banjo, and absolutely no business playing the violin. Enjoy the first ten seconds of me staring directly into your soul. by @bennettslavsky
