As a filmmaker, one of the questions I’m often asked, “What’s your next passion project?”. Without hesitation, my answer was always Drummer Boy.

For the past eight years, we’ve poured our hearts into this story. Dreaming, writing, scouting locations, filming proof of concepts, creating storyboards, and knocking on countless studio doors, hoping someone would believe in it as much as we did.

After eight years of rejection, it started to feel like a dream that might never become reality. Then Angel and an incredible community of like minded storytellers gave us a chance.

Now, my brothers and I are just months away from releasing Drummer Boy to the world. I can’t wait to share more in the months ahead. But for now… here’s a little tease. by @bensmallbone

After a year of some of the most audacious and difficult filmmaking of my career, we’re excited to present to the world over 3.5 hours of new Homestead content. This season continues the journey into the humanity of the apocalypse and the desperate decisions that must be made to survive. As darkness and violence envelop the homestead, an unwavering light radiates from within.

People have asked me recently why my company is called Radiate Films(named in 2004), like they think I conveniently just came up with it for a show about a nuclear explosion full of radiation destroying lives. It’s quite the opposite actually, and this series sums it up well. We endeavor to “radiate” light in creative and positive ways that go far beyond nuclear explosions.

I believe that light shines brightest in the darkness.

The Homestead story continues with the release of a new episode every week until Christmas. Forever thankful to the incredible cast and crew that made it happen and stuck through the 110-degree heat in shipping containers and on mountain tops to bring this to life. taken in Salt Lake City, Utah by @bensmallbone

In 2020, amidst the COVID chaos, For King & Country wasn’t touring, and I was between film projects. We’d been discussing creating a book, movie, or documentary about our family’s story for years. I was initially reluctant because I wanted to tell a raw, real, and accurate portrayal of our successes and struggles. It had to be authentic. I brought in two co-directors to help tell an unbiased story and an all-star team of editors to sift through decades of unseen home videos. The making of the documentary was a 5-year journey but in many ways started when I was 11 and got my first camcorder. I filmed 100s of hours of footage over the years without a clear purpose, but God had a plan for it all. As the documentary started to develop, we realized the story could also be a movie and it inspired the scripted film “Unsung Hero,” but it was only a small portion of our story. In many ways, this is a sequel, and our story is still continuing…

For almost 2 years, I’ve worked on a film and tv series titled HOMESTEAD with an incredible cast and crew. In a world of sequels and recycled concepts, this film is audacious and unique. It is gritty, sometimes scary…yet chock-full of hope and beauty. “The light shines brightest in the darkness”. Good art makes you ponder life’s greatest questions. The Homestead movie and series do just that. Generosity and kindness can be easy when you’re living a life full of comfort and ease. But how do you love your neighbor when everything is taken away and your life is in jeopardy? Who can you trust when desperation and chaos rule the land? Join us in theaters this Friday across North America as we bring this exciting story to life on the big screen. And then immediately after the story continues at home on the Angel Studios app as a series, and you don’t want to miss it. It’s my favorite project I’ve ever made. by @bensmallbone

33 years ago, my family journeyed to the states on an incredible adventure that changed all of us forever. We learned hard work, a reliance on our faith and to never quit. For many years, we discussed turning our story into a book, a documentary and even a movie. After years of funding issues, script rewrites, unsuccessful pitches, and difficult changes to the creative team, my brothers never gave up…When a door closed, they found a window. Just like my family did 33 years ago. Today the UNSUNG HERO movie releases to the world. As a person that admittedly at times was one of the biggest critics of the film and script, I can honestly say you need to see it! I guarantee you won’t regret it. A rare true story that is actually true. Not just “based on” or “inspired by”. I lived this story…And it changed me and my family forever. by @bensmallbone

As a teenager I spent many hours watching almost every post-apocalyptic movie. I was fascinated with the rapture…or what happens when zombies/aliens take over. Would I survive? Most of these movies were terrible and I dreamed of someday helping tell these stories but with high production value and a positive light in the darkness. This project is just that. The apocalypse but with hope(and no zombies). We filmed in stunning Utah and worked alongside some of the worlds finest talent on both sides of the camera. Here’s a sneak peek of whats coming to theaters in 2024… by @bensmallbone

Movie trivia: The opening title sequence and poster was actually filmed on a real printing press that printed Johnny Cash posters and has been in business since 1879.

Filming at Hatch Show Print was one of my all time favorite shoots.

In 1967 Johnny Cash was at the end of himself. His family and career was almost over, his body was withering away, and his faith was nonexistent. He journeyed into the depths of a cave to die. What happened next changed his life forever.
